The record turnout didn't happen, but it looks like it was because the base just didn't get out to vote for McCain. I'll take it. :)

in 2004 - we'd have won against their 62 million. But they only had 56 million this year, so we also need to see how many Republicans crossed over as we analyze what this election means in terms of pure political ideology.
