... I worked for Bobby Kennedy in Oregon and Calif. in 1968, and saw so much hope deferred, so many dreams dashed
to smithereens by the assassinations of these two brave souls, my own included.

It strikes me as more than a little uncanny that now, forty years later, a BLACK MAN from ("on to") CHICAGO has unflinchingly
picked up that mantle, and taken it over the finish line to become our 44th president.

I have a feeling that this is the moment that Martin saw on the mountaintop, that this is the the beginning of that "newer world"
Bobby knew was possible. Yes I know this is just the beginning, and there's huge amounts of work to do and it will never be easy.

It's been a long brutal journey over the past 4 decades, yet now we have this huge opening, we have this sense that
any fucking thing is possible now ...

Does anyone doubt that Martin and Bobby are both smiling BIG-time today. :-)

What a day this is ... Whew!

1. Our nation's Democratic journey was interrupted in 1968, not ended.
I have often thought of MLK and RFK during this campaign. And whenever I saw groups of young blacks and whites WORKING TOGETHER, side-by-side and hand-in-hand, I would think of the "I Have A Dream" speech and feel like Martin's dream was finally manifest.

actually someone else on a DU string days ago made that connection before I did, and so it was partly
borrowed, just to be fair.

21. Well said glowing, I believe we are living in a very historic social
turning point in our country. Something as great and on the same scale as the sixties social revolution. Our country has not experienced anything like it since. Barrack Obama's candidacy is causing us to confront issues that were first brought to our awareness over forty years ago. I believe JFK's and RFK's legacy and DR. Kings dream has come of age in the form of Barrack Obama. Glowing, I'll keep a light on for you!

10. Martin Luther King invoked Moses in his last speech...we've had 40 years in the wilderness
"But it really doesn't matter with me now. Because I've been to the mountaintop. Like anybody I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I'm not concerned about that now. I just want to do God's will. And he has allowed me to go up to the mountaintop. And I've looked over. And I've seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight that we as a people will get to the promised land. So I'm happy tonight: I'm not worried about anything. I'm not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord."

- Martin Luther King Jr., Memphis, TN April 3, 1968
