Although it seems that a lot of folks continued to be flim-flammed by Smith's moderate, reasonable-sounding voice. Had I not had a good talk (backed up by references) with my gal about Smith's moderate voice but lockstep GOP voting record, she might have made the same mistake.

the difference at the moment is less than 10,000 votes and there are still a lot of unreported votes from Multnomah and Lane counties, both of which are going Merkley's direction. Extrapolating from what has been reported, its conceivable that he could get a net advantage of an additional 70,000 votes when those counties are done reporting and while there are a few red leaning counties that still have votes to be reported, they are much smaller -- probably too small to save Smith.
