She was a stranger, and she kissed me.
Suddenly, it may be cool to be an American again

By WILLIAM J. KOLE
Associated Press Writer

VIENNA, Austria -- She was a stranger, and she kissed me. Just for being an American.

It happened on the bus on my way to work Wednesday morning, a few hours after compatriots clamoring for change swept Barack Obama to his historic victory. I was on the phone, and the 20-something Austrian woman seated in front of me overheard me speaking English.

Without a word, she turned, pecked me on the cheek and stepped off at the next stop.

Nothing was said, but the message was clear: Today, we are all Americans.

21. Cue the Back To School clip...
...of Rodney Dangerfield yelling, "Hey, everybody! We're all gonna get laid!"

Here's wishing many wet smoochies on DUers and Democrats everywhere.

3. I want it to be OK for me to be a Texan, again.
You would not believe the grief I get, here in Marin.

5. You wouldn't believe.
My family has been in what is now Texas since 1630.

We don't speak like stereotypical Texans, but more like Carolinians (we are extremely clannish).

Here in Marin, people often ask me where I'm from.

"Texas."

(eye roll), "Take him back with you, please."

Or, "Well, thanks a lot. For Nothing."

Or, "What in the world are you doing here?"

Etc., etc.

7. I'm a hard-core, life-long liberal/lefty/enviro, currently back in TX but will leave again,
but don't diss everyone from TX just because we're here - after all, millions of Texans DID vote for Obama, despite the (larger number of ) idiots here.

...then dust off the American flag pins Dumbha made us put away in 2003.

Nice to have our country back.

12. I provide support for users of my application around the world
I spoke with a person from Toronto, and a person from the UK today and they were both absolutely thrilled that Barack Obama won. It wasn't a kiss, but with both of them I said it was good to join the rest of the civilized world again, they both whole-heartedly agreed.

My user in Toronto actually stayed up later than I did watching the returns and various commentary about about the Senate and House elections. I feel like I can actually stand a little taller once again as an American, no longer having to be ashamed of my president (and I'm not even from Texas like Natalie Maines).
