More Good News !
Here is some information regarding possible appointments in the Obama-Biden administration that DUers might find of interest:

{1} "President-elect Barack Obama is strongly considering Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to head the Environmental Protection Agency, a Cabinet post, Democratic officials told Politico. …
"RFK Jr.’s cousin, Caroline Kennedy, who helped Obama lead his vice-presidential search, is being considered for U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, although some Obama officials doubt she would take it. Obama is indebted to the Kennedy family for a hearty endorsement at a crucial point in the Democratic primaries.

"The selection of Kennedy would be a shrewd early move for the new presidential team. Obama advisers said the nomination would please both Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.). …."

{2} "Expressing deep satisfaction -- almost relief -- with the election of Barack Obama yesterday, Robert Kennedy Jr., the longtime environmental activist and member of the Democratic Party's most cherished family, said he would serve the next president if asked.

" ‘You know what, I would be of service in any way that the administration asked me to be,’ Kennedy told the Huffington Post. ‘But I am also very happy and I believe I am being effective doing the stuff I am doing currently.’ .….

Kennedy, who works as an attorney and officer for the environmental group Riverkeeper, said he saw in Obama's ascension to the presidency many of the political traits that defined his uncle and father's runs at the office.

" ‘His disposition is very much like my uncle,’ he said, referencing President John Kennedy. ‘The intellectual passion and the coolness and the dry humor. And I think his obsession and his preoccupation with justice, and including all of the different members of our society -- he just understands that we have to go forward as a community... The extraordinary demonstrations on election night and through this morning, with young people, we didn't even see that magnitude of demonstration in 1960 when my uncle was elected.’ ….

12. Well, I do, too!
And I hope that at least 99 more DUers do, as well.

It will be great to have an EPA director who is on the side of the people of this country, rather than fronting for industries that pollute the land, water, and air. The very idea of it is exciting.

I believe that it was in April when I first noted on this forum that Obama was likely to appoint Robert to this position after he was elected President.

Randy Rhodes, Secretary of Veteran's Affairs?

Chuck D., Secretary of Homeland Security?

Thom Hartmann, Secretary of Labor?

Sorry, Air America. You grew a great farm team.

5. K & R - thanks, H20 Man. Another good thought re RFK Jr:
Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 07:05 PM by Nothing Without Hope
A few years ago he said that the GOP party was 95% corrupt and the Dem party was 75% corrupt:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x2999611

The fact that he is so positive now and so willing to serve in the new administration suggests that he feels that we may actually move away from this stifling corruption at last.

I would be VERY happy with that choice.

While I like Caroline Kennedy, I don't know enough about her to know if she'd be a good choice for UN ambassador.

19. Robert would be the
perfect choice for the EPA position. What's more, republicans at the grass roots level have a great deal of respect for him. He is able to communicate common values: all of us benefit from progressive environmental policies.

The only ones who are unhappy with this prospect are those who demand unregulated and unlimited "rights" to poison the land, water, and air. We can accurately call them "Cheney's people." They have had control of the EPA for far too long.

I only know of Caroline from what little I read, or see of her on the television. I'm confident that President Obama will only consider her based upon her qualifications and ability to do the job. I must admit that, even without knowing much about her, that I an happy to hear that this is even being considered at some level.

"No Woman, No Cry."

This is an emotional time. There are tides of feelings that are breaking through. For the first time in years, we dare to feel safe in experiencing a range of emotions that were put on hold during the Bush-Cheney years.

25. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is one of the only people
Maybe even the only person to utter the word "overpopulation" on the radio. This is one indication the he is more attuned to reality than almost anyone I've ever known. There is denial by so many on this incredibly critical subject. It tells me that he is far above the norm. I would have full faith in him. Not just some kind of acceptance.

This election has ramifications that will take days just to sort out.

36. There is NO ONE better to head this than Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
I would hope that the agency's reach would extend to address Global Climate Change in an Obama Administration.

I loved the speech he gave in July 2007 at the Live Earth Event... he called it like it is. Those who pollute and steal our resources are traitors. He would be relentless in tracking them down and making them stop and pay for the damage they have done to our environment and to our children's future.

Here is the audio of his speech here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Heku9oTLysg
I love how he ended it... "...And I will see all of you on the barricades!"

Bush turned the EPA into the Environment Polluters Association,
it will return to its true purpose.

55. Yes- we need RFK Jr. in there
I've been advocating him for the Justice Department for over a year now, but EPA is perfect for him.

As I drove a friend home from an election party, I told her, "Now I can pick up where I was when Bobby Kennedy got shot." Somehow, Obama's election puts us back to the point we could've been at in 1968. We've got a lot to repair.

I'd love to see and hear RFK Jr. in the EPA.
