Will you still worry about stolen elections in the future? |
|
Or do you feel, after Obama's relatively drama-free, decisive victory last night, that maybe things are starting to look up?

1. Hell yes! The fact that one out of three this decade wasn't stolen doesn't re-assure me |
|
It's definitely a good question, though. My hope is that the Democrats enact meaningful election reform. And getting as close as possible to 60 Senators would help.

5. Well, to be fair, the 2006 midterms didn't appear to have many problems. |
|
Though I guess it's different than the Presidential ones.

16. There is no reason why we shouldn't have that, |
|
regardless of the results of a particular election.
We also need to fix things so that no one should have to stand in line for hours on end before they can vote!

4. Very much so. Republicans are already working to find |

new ways to cage voters and rig the elections.

6. We cannot always count on having a LANDSLIDE turnout to overcome trickery. |
|
There were documented incidents of voter purging this time. There were purging cases that were prevented this time. There were vote flipping machines again.
We were lucky to have had everyone working hard enough to get a huge turnout that overwhelmed the usual Republican tricks.
Voting systems are set up state by state. We need some national minimum standards, like paper ballots and random auditing of results. Now we will have an administration that supports the right to vote and we can move those things forward.

7. Now that we have power, we need to make sure |
|
we have verified voting. I'd prefer going back to old fashioned paper ballots to be honest!

from companies like Diebold there's always a little uneasiness with me. In my opinion one reason we saw what we did last night was that the powers that be in the gop didn't have that same urgency with McCain as they did with Bush. They were unrelenting at getting * into office one way or another. They even had a different slate of Florida electors to the Electoral College ready to go if need be. I'm sure there were other things as well. I never once saw that kind of push behind McCain.

10. Yes. The Republicans will be looking for ways to disenfranchise |
|
We need election reform. I'm for paper ballots, pens/pencils and then eyeballs counting the votes. And that means counting up the down ballot candidates and issues, too.

11. A Dem shouldn't HAVE to have a 10% margin and a crazy old man opponent to claim their wins. |
|
Gore likely won by 3% and Kerry 5%. 2002 candidates including popular Governors lost to election fraud. What do you THINK a key aspect of the US attorney scandal is about, anyway?

12. Every day until our legislators come up with a |
|
tamper proof system that can't be gamed. A first step is to incorporate sound accounting principles like you would with your money. A double entry system makes it harder to cheat. The single entry system we now use invites theft from the unscrupulous.

13. Yes, and that's why a group like Secretary of State Project is important |

They endorsed 4 candidates for the SOS position this year, and so far, it seems they've batted 1000% 2 clear-cut victories and 2 squeakers.
These are the folks who alerted the netroots about Jennifer Brunner in Ohio, and helped get her elected in 2006.
This is an org well worth supporting, and donating $$ to candidates.

|
.....and leave the electoral college alone.....and the touchscreens are OK.....and the long lines were worth it....
Yeah. My candidate won, so the process works OK.

We had 9% of all voters had all their votes dropped.
The tickects and log books showed they voted but the EES machines showed no voting activity.

18. I didn't wait in line for six hours only to be turned away, so I see no problems with the system |
|
And I'm sure voting machines are as hack-proof and accurate as ATM machines, because in a democracy surely we would settle for nothing less.
So no worries. (um, just to be sure: :sarcasm:)
