2. One guy started whining about "defeat in Iraq"
A collegue of mine asked him what a "win" was...he tried to give some inane world war II reference...slammed him down.

9. I love that wing-nut theory about war
Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 07:21 PM by JohnnyRingo
It was the same 40 years ago: "I'll be so ashamed as an American unless our soldiers keep dying over there".
"We aren't making any visual headway, but it's almost won."
"It's unpatriotic to complain about the war until it's over".
"It's like spitting on our soldiers unless we can give them a victory parade".

That's not how they say it, but that's how I hear it.

New war, same rhetoric. Trust me, a 15 year war isn't long enough for them.

3. Same at my work. None of the known Republicans said a word
except for one, who was really pretty gracious. But I did manage to share a Terrorist Fist Bump with another like-minded co-worker. And there was a lot of "Good morning." "It sure is!"

as a result of the election.

Good fucking riddance.

It's mourning in America for them!

8. I usually try to be lively and friendly at my job.
Unfortunately, I think I'll be looking for another one soon.

I see some "writing on the wall" that's not too friendly. Lots of nepotism going on, and I'm getting the feeling, big boss may be bringing his daughter in to take my place (his son is already there, and he's pretty worthless).

17. Best of luck with your potential new job search.
It sounds like your present work environment is a major drag. "Bluer" employment could certainly be more beneficial and uplifting to your 9 to 5 physical, mental, and spiritual health. Godspeed. :-)

6. Not at my office.
Several thinly-veiled jabs, laced with references to Obama's race.

I grew really tired of it, and I said so.

Plus the obligatory post-election rant from the third-party guy, all about how unenlightened all the rest of us poor saps are.

:eyes:

7. Very quite where I work as well....
Most of the people I work with are Republicans, and only one made any mention of it, and I thought he was very polite.

He came up to me, stuck out his hand to shake and congratulated me and the Democratic party on our win. He said that he hopes that the candidate we chose will live up to our expectations.

I thanked him and told him that he will, don't worry he will.

10. Had every intention of gloating today...
Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 07:23 PM by casus belli
I've been picturing this day in my head for eight years - but I couldn't bring myself to do it. My smile was just a lot wider and more prolonged than usual. I guess I remember how it felt 8 years ago, and how depressed I was for several months after the election. As much as I wanted vindication for that, and for all the rubbing-it-in that I had to endure, I just couldn't bring myself to do it. And the moment I realized I couldn't do it, I realized that fundamentally, that aspect is one of the primary things that separates conservatives from progressives - that empathy most of us on the progressive side of things feel for people who are hurting, and that appears to be unnaturally vacant in conservatives (at least the more vocal ones).

So, I guess even though I didn't get to feel the temporary satisfaction of a good gloat, I got something far more rewarding. I got confirmation that our ideas and fundamental philosophy is more just, and that sometimes - justice really does prevail.

11. My smart but right wing boss ( he's great) said, "You were right." I said, "It's not about being rig
right."

Because it's not.

I think democrats have an entirely different feeling of joy about this.

The GOP I know have a blib, superior feeling when their guy defeats ours.

But the people I know are really relieved that this brilliant, humble, smart, independant man in in charge. We just need him in charge.

It has nothing to do with defeating McCain. At least for me, it doesn't.

This is not the "our team vs your team", this is the end of the "your team" mentality altogether.

Everyone, from now on, is on our team. There's only one team, and we're all on it.

We will be our own worst enemy, and we will get all the blame and credit.

13. My little brother, who considers himself a conservative,
came home from school this afternoon pretty upset about some of the horrible things he had heard today. (He's only 17 and can't vote, but after initially pulling for McCain he switched to Obama after doing some research on the issues. Smart kid! ;)) Anyway, apparently people at the high school, which is located in an extremely red area of a (formerly!) red state, were saying all kinds of hateful things - stuff like "I can't believe that n----- got elected," and talking crap about how America was going to be destroyed because Obama was the Antichrist. :grr: :eyes: :banghead: It's sad, really - these people are so ignorant and hateful that they simply can't accept the idea of a black man as President of the United States. :( Sigh. There is much work to be done...

14. I wished I could say the same here...
I work with 3 not-so-closeted racists and all 3 are full of doom and gloom. One keeps saying he's moving to Canada! Good riddance. He also said he's getting out before Obama turns America into Africa... I had to walk off after that.

For months, I have been asking for some policy, issue, or opinion that Obama has that they can attribute to their belief that he's a 'f$%ing dumbass'. They can point to nothing except the usual smears of tax and spend, terrorists, etc. They truly have no critical reasoning ability.v All they have is hate because of the color of someone's skin. Thank god I'm close to being laid-off so I can get away from the backwards rednecks.

18. I have a few of those too
After hearing the disgusting bs, I told one of them that I was really disappointed in them, as I thought they were smarter than that and that they sounded like the very people they like to make fun of....

It is disgusting to hear people talk like this; What really galls me is they have the temerity and desperation to actually believe that their skin color says something about their character? get over it.
