I think Obama's first Supreme Court nomination will be a Latina woman |
|
I think I heard on NPR that she is a federal appeals court judge in NY. We need more women and we need more diversity on the court. Obama said he wanted people who understand everyday people's lives.

1. I hope that Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI) is nominated... |
|
...for the Supreme Court after her in that case.

9. She's a lead pipe lock to replace, probably, Justice Ginsburg. |
|
She has experience on the District and Circuit benches, is reliably progressive and in her early 50s. Take this one to the bank.

3. I would love to see that--a bench that reflects and respects us better. |

One of my main concerns with Obama was that I'd be sure he'd pick excellent SCJOTUS's.

4. Howard Fineman said tonight that Obama is not approaching things with the idea that he |
|
wants to specifically promote diversity. His primary goal is to promote excellence, in whatever form he finds it - whether it's a woman, a man, a person or any color, whatever. Excellence will be the factor he's searching for, and diversity will be a secondary factor.

8. Yes, I want them to be progressive, and have at least 20 years of life left in them. |

She's as far away from Clarence ("Uncle") Thomas as you can get.

all too young (unless clarence gives up.)
Likely Justice Stevens (oldest), or Ginsberg; Justice Souter not happy, I think, but may (or may not) hang on.
