Three cheers for Election Protection! |
|
Edited on Thu Nov-06-08 12:30 AM by backscatter712
Did the GOP try to cheat?
They wanted to, but all of you working Election Protection - from lawyers to poll checkers to exit pollers were there.
I'll have to find the thread again with the numbers from the exit polls, but the GOP had to turn the volume knob down on their cheating - they could only steal within the margin of error. Not enough.
And that was because of some high-profile smackdowns before the election - calling them out on voter purges and caging, keeping an eye on Diebold machine vote-flipping, hitting the courts when the lines at the polls were too long because Democratic-leaning and minority districts didn't have enough voting machines, etc.
And for every public case that went to court and hit the media, there were probably dozens that were settled behind closed doors - with election protection lawyers sending cease-and-desist letters and having meetings telling the election thieves to knock it off.
Because of you, we had a relatively honest election. Not 100% honest, but close. And because of that, WE TOOK OUR COUNTRY BACK FROM THE TYRANTS!
We all owe you a debt that we can't repay.

1. We sure do, good work Election Protection |
|
But we need to get rid of the machines permanently, I worry that this victory may cause many of us to get lazy, falsely believing that our election system poses no threat to our democracy. Nothing could be further from the truth.

3. Agreed; we can't forget about the Georgia Senate run-off though |
|
on Dec 2nd. It's a close election and I believe it's 100% electronic voting without a paper trail.

4. Absolutely! And I have some suspicions about Georgia. |
|
Despite the record registrations this season and the incredibly long lines, for some reason, the turn out was low and Democrats didn't perform as well as the polls suggested.
Hmmmmm...

6. Yes there was cheating but we turned out the AVALANCHE to get our landslide. |

I hope everyone will remain vigilant about election protection.
During the mid-term elections we can't count on the same kind of avalanche to overwhelm the trickery.
We will need PAPER BALLOTS with random audits or if any electronic voting is allowed there must be paper trails that are subjected to random auditing.
Don't let this victory obscure the need to fix the electronic voting machinery and our too partisan voting systems.
