Bobby Jindall going to Iowa to give a big speech...
I was watching Faux and they had Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindall on...he's supposed to be going to Iowa soon to give what they called a major speech. Since the Republicans know they need to reach out to the broader electorate of more than white people, there's a possibility they will nominate him. Do you think we could actually see an election where two minorities run against each other? I find the idea that he's going to Iowa after seeing how Obama was able to win it interesting, to say the least...

2. wow... reading this all I could think about was Rachel Maddow on TV today
talking about how we don't know word one about the new politics the country is going to practice.

I mean... it's strange that there's now a precedent that's been set for minority politicians with little national stature and funny names running successful national campaigns.

3. Umm, I smell strategery
Literally, I smell the movers and shakers of the Republican Party putting Jindal out there right now in an effort to marginalize Palin.

Jindal was impressive IMO when Hurricane Gustav was about to make landfall. I give him good credit, he did what needed to be done. Decisive action. It was really a breath of fresh air from the repukes. I don't think anyone can refute that he was great in that reaction. Of course their worst fear was a re-Katrina situation, so they were definitely bridled for it. He also puts a minority face on the Repuke party. As this melting-pot turns ever caramel, the repukes *need* to re-brand themselves from the old-decrepit white man.

Palin is dead in the water, there are multiple knives stuck in her back. A lot of those knives were thrown a couple weeks ago. This week we might see faces to those knives.

4. That's why Obama needs to move fast with his agenda
Get some important things done early.

But he knows this, of course. And Jindall is no juggernaut. Obama will handle him.

6. OK, like Hillary proved a woman can be a viable candidate.
Sarah Palin proved the country won't accept just any wacko female as a candidate.

Obama proved that a minority person with a funny name, etc. can win.
My prediction is that Jindal will prove that not every wacko minority person with a funny name, etc. can win.

Goddamit, people are at last voting on the basis of something approximating real qualifications. They aren't reacting to surface characteristics. Leave it to the blockhead Republicans to be unable to analyze the phenomenon below the level of the surface image.

10. What hypocrisy that would be...
given that Jindal has been a practicing Hindu into his adult life, and then converted to Catholicism. And that wouldn't be an "issue" for the far right base? Oh, I'm sure it wouldn't be...

What's the excuse for a Louisiana governor going to Iowa anyway? Is no one calling the GOP out on being so fucking obvious?

15. I know several Repukes who see him as the future of their party
Only problem is, raise your hand if you think white evangelical christians would vote for someone that looks like him.

Raise your hand if even the old fashioned fiscal conservatives would vote for someone who looks like him.

The Republican party is not the Democratic party. Their tent is small. At minimum I'd guess they are at least 50 years away from being able to accept that kind of change.

Oh he may run, but there's not a chance in hell he'd ever be nominated.

18. Entitlement and privilege is just too good to give away,

when it comes to some white guys of the GOP. They're only propping up Jindal as another of their stealth bombs to get back into power. There's no sentiment behind the change in the GOP.

One thing truly struck me about the McCain concession speech was the group of blond guys in the center of the crowd screaming, "We'll be back! We'll be back!"

I don't take that lightly, knowing how much vitriol is spewed from Freepers about the new President-Elect.

I have a feeling that Gov. Jindal is about be used just like Palin in a big way. Being that Jindal is probably as self-hating as Malkin, Elder and Steele, he won't notice it and will go with the flow. But when he has to knock heads with the bigots of the party who despise any person of color who has a real chance of eclipsing their power(i.e. the Lotts, Barbours, Buchanans who represent the old guard), he'll find out how virulent their racism is.

I mean, how does he actually deal with the real virulent bigots down there who think that hanging a noose is a joke?

I mean it fascinates me about him as well as the other Republicans of color. Were they deaf to the shouts of the crowds at the McCain/Palin rallies. Did they not know about Mr. Obama's face on fake food stamps or the Obama Waffles?

Jeez. It must be hard when trying to defend Colonel Sanders while your fellow poultry gets cooked in a vat of boiling oil.

22. Depends on where we are in two years.
If Obama's got high ratings, they won't toss Jindal into that race. They'll save him from 2016 instead. He's their rising star, and they won't throw him away on a losing campaign.
