Just One Moment ...
Edited on Thu Nov-06-08 02:07 AM by NanceGreggs
I know that tomorrow I have to be vigilant, to continue the fight for what is just and fair – but give me just one moment to catch my breath, to breathe-in the sweet scent of justice and the sense of all-seeming-right that’s in the air tonight.

I know that tomorrow I have to speak up for what I feel is right, without wavering in my demands – but give me just one moment to be soft and quiet, to find forgiveness where it didn’t exist before, to hear the sound of harmony that may lurk behind the grating sameness of my own voice.

I know that tomorrow I have to be strong and unyielding in my sense of purpose – but give me just one moment to surrender myself to tears, to be unashamedly weakened by the events taking place and their positive portent for the strength of the future.

I know that tomorrow I have to be a realist, who recognizes that battles won do not mean an end to the war in which we all must persevere – but give me just one moment to be a dreamer, to allow myself the luxury of sleeping in peace for the first time in years, my sword momentarily at rest – along with my heart.

I know that tomorrow I have to shout my indignation at injustice, to make every effort to have my voice heard – but give me just one moment to be willfully and happily silent, as I join my fellow men not in the battle-cries of the past, but in prayer for a future of understanding – and peace.

I know that tomorrow I have to be aware – aware of the dangers of complacence, the pitfalls of compliance, the trap of being caught completely unaware – but give me just one moment to be blissfully ignorant of what is past, and what might yet not come to fruition, and go on my way in the utter happiness of the moment at hand.

I know that tomorrow I have to be grounded, and not drift away in the winds of change that might be altered in their course by future events – but give me just one moment to fly like a stringless kite, unfettered by the gravity of the situations we will undoubtedly find ourselves in; unrestricted in my ability to soar above the realities that are, and that will be in the days to come.

I know that tomorrow I have to be awake enough to see the world as it is, and be prepared to do my best to do something about it – but give me just one moment to sleep, to pretend the dream won’t ever end, to slumber so peacefully in its embrace that its warmth will live in my memory – forever.

Today has been an emotional write-off - for me and, I am sure, for many of you. It's been hard to concentrate on what continues to be wrong in the face of so much that now seems to be so right.

Good night to all of you dreamers out there, who appreciate that tomorrow will be another day – but who also know that the magic you feel tonight doesn’t have to fade away …

Tomorrow the battle-stations must be manned; guns at-the-ready, take no prisoners, show no mercy, stop at nothing - forward-march towards combat, battles to be won, victories yet to be achieved.

But tonight, sleep - perchance to dream?

3. "It's been quite a twenty-four."
The under-statement of a lifetime - and that sums it up beautifully.

7. Dream sweet dreams
Now it's time to say good night
Good night Sleep tight
Now the sun turns out his light
Good night Sleep tight
Dream sweet dreams for me
Dream sweet dreams for you.

Close your eyes and I'll close mine
Good night Sleep tight
Now the moon begins to shine
Good night Sleep tight
Dream sweet dreams for me
Dream sweet dreams for you.

Close your eyes and I'll close mine
Good night Sleep tight
Now the sun turns out his light
Good night Sleep tight
Dream sweet dreams for me
Dream sweet dreams for you.

Good night Good night Everybody
Everybody everywhere
Good night.

23. No problem Nance
Every soldier needs a shore leave, you earned it!

Take one and enjoy, breathe in.

The war is not over, but a rested soldier is a combat ready one!

Sadly Bush did not learn that with Iraq, but then again he is a dumb shit!\

Is it 75 days still King Nothing gives up his crown??

14. I'm glad you posted your feelings. I've been feeling the same way
I just want to take a little time to breathe, to be able to put my head down on my pillow and sleep without dreaming of the consequences of not knocking on enough doors or getting to every name and number on the pages upon pages of phone lists left undone simply because there wasn't enough time or enough volunteers to work them or the endless worrying over whether or not Americans would not/could not do the right thing, this time.

I just need to enjoy these precious moments of the now.

Thank you for putting your feelings into just the right words.

18. Nothing wrong with that!
Have a nice dream, it is deserved!

There will be nightmares ahead, but like this storm over NJ it will pass!

The way I see it, Obama cannot do worse then what we were stuck with for 8 years, so things can only go up!

Hey even if he only gets 1/4 of his promises done, I would call his first term a smashing success!!

21. Be happy for at least a moment
For just one moment, to be happy, that something which needed to happen, looked as though it would happen, did.

To be happy to see that it is possible to be nice and finish first.

To be happy to watch the strength of optimism overcome the weakness of fear.
