2. I wonder how this map would correlate with touchscreen (no paper trail) voting machines.

My guess is that it correlate pretty well. A project for Bradblog maybe?

I don't trust optiscans (paper ballot backup) either, since 99% of the ballots are never counted. A 1% audit is not nearly sufficient when the 'votes' are all turned into electrons, manipulable with 'TRADE SECRET' code in central tabulations. But at least an audit or recount is possible, which is something of a deterrent.

But touchscreen are ENTIRELY, COMPLETELY NON-TRANSPARENT, and EXTREMELY riggable. These systems are NUTS. And I know they are prevalent in the south in particular.
