Don't count Missouri red yet
I realize that for most people, having Missouri turn from red to blue is no big deal. However it is a big deal to those of us who live here. It is a sign that we've rejoined civilized society, that we're still a bellweather state, and as such, we retain more power and influence. Not to mention that McCaskill and other Dems in this state went out on a limb, and we don't want to disappoint them.

That being said, despite the fact that this election has already been called, it isn't over yet in this state. Right now, McCain is ahead in the state by 5,823 votes. What's left out there are 17,000 provisional and absentee ballots, mostly from St. Louis and Kansas City proper, Democratic strongholds. Furthermore, the counting of these votes is being done under the supervision of a Democratic Secretary of State, which means they will be counted accurately and honestly. Though this is going to take a couple of weeks, there is still some serious hope out there that Missouri will finally fall for Obama.

So please, don't count Missouri red yet.

5. It would be mainly for the people who put their hearts and souls into this campaign
We worked hard to turn this state blue, and it would be such a disappointment for it to go red in spite of all that hard work. I realize that we have a lot of racists and RW fundies in this state, but nevertheless, most of the people in this state are kind, caring, intelligent people who don't need to get hung with all the negatives that go living in a red state.

2. I think it is going to definitely turn BLUE!
:kick:

And I am prepared to wait for the votes to be counted. Perhaps this delay will emphasize for those still clueless that our way of voting and counting those votes needs to be fixed. HAVA didn't even come close.

8. The only thing that has saved Missouri's electoral butt is Robin Carnahan as SoS
She's fought off Blunt and his boys since she took office in order to keep Missouri's electoral process as fair and free as possible. But you're right, we need a complete rework of HAVA at the federal level, and goddamnit, we've got to do away with touch screen voting and go back to paper ballots for all.

9. MO better turn blue, because if it does, my prediction of 391 electoral college votes looks better.

4. Oh, I would jump for joy
I lived there for 20+ years and went back to canvass for Obama. Couldn't believe the Show Me state would go for McCain over Obama.

Good to know it's not over yet. Thank you!

12. Not neccearily,
It depends on who the SoS is. On average in this state, about a third of provisionals have been counted, but that's an average. Under Democratic SoS's, more provisional ballots are counted than not, under 'Pug SoS's, much less provisionals are counted. Right now we've got Robin Carnahan in the office, a Dem, the daughter of Mel Carnahan. I suspect that most of these provisionals will be counted, and most of these provisionals come out of St. Louis and KC, meaning that they'll mostly be Democratic ballots.

13. Yes, our Sec of State, Robin Carnahan, has said the provisionals will probably not change
anything. Boo, hiss!

16. Where are you hearing that?
I haven't heard anything like that from her office, just the acknowledgment that there are all these provisionals, from urban areas, still to be counted. Frankly, I still think that Obama will eek it out here.

17. Man, what happened in Jackson County?
I thought for sure that the KC suburbs would go blue this time, what happened:shrug: Of course that's not as shocking as St. Charles going for McCain, I think that went counter to what the polls were showing:shrug:

22. No matter what happens in MO, from my perspective in TN
Edited on Thu Nov-06-08 12:06 PM by Pithlet
you look pretty damn good. I'm proud of you guys no matter which way it goes. It gives those of us in the deep red states a little bit of hope. It's pretty disheartening to stand in line for an hour and a half only to see your state go overwhelmingly for McCain. It doesn't get any redder. I just had to tell myself I stood in that long line to push that button for Obama and that it was absolutely worth it. I would have stood in line as long as it took. For those of you who live in a state that didn't quite make it by a hair, take heart. You're almost there, and you're way farther ahead than some of us. You'll be blue next election. Your hard work is paying off, and you're showing people that red states shouldn't ever be written off. Maybe TN will get there some day... Sigh.
