Campaign to oust "Bush v. Gore" Justices? |
|
Edited on Thu Nov-06-08 10:05 AM by johnlal
First, I would suggest a letter-writing campaign. "Dear _____ As you know, we have just experienced an historic even in American politics. Barack Obama was overwhelmingly elected as the first African American President of the United States. In electing Obama, the American people forcefully rejected the Bush Administration's political corruption of our government's institutions. President Obama will have his work cut out for him in weeding corruption out of all areas of our government, but especially in areas related to American Justice.
You were part of the partisan majority in the case of Bush v. Gore. Voting along party lines, the Supreme Court took it upon themselves to nullify the votes of millions of people, and to send George W. Bush to the Whitehouse. The result was devastating to our country. Within 8 short years, our nation was morally and financially bankrupted. Your role in the Bush v. Gore decision has at least created the appearance of impropriety. It certainly raised the specter of bias, partisanship and cronyism-- all of which have no place in the Supreme Court of the United States.
I ask you to voluntarily step down from your seat on the Supreme Court as a good will gesture to help the nation heal. Please remember that Barack Obama is a former professor of Constitutional Law. You can rest assured that his choice to replace you will reflect his reverence for the Constitution and Laws of the United States. Your continued presence on the Court will retard our efforts to unify the Nation after a turbulent and damaging era in our history. Please consider this suggestion, and help our country move on."
-- Of course, they will resist. I think commentators on Supreme Court cases should also help to make the court's motivations and biases transparent. Every time one of the "Bush v. Gore" justices opposes Obama policies, the case should be mentioned: "Scalia, who was part of the infamous majority in the controversial "Bush v. Gore" case, wrote the dissenting opinion".
--After that, maybe public ostracism. Don't sell them gas or groceries. Don't serve them in restaurants. If they come into your workplace, churches, schools or universities, turn your back on them.
Just a few thoughts from the top of my head.
(Edited to correct spelling-- sorry).

|
picky... picky... character assassination, why not try and discuss the OP's topic instead of damning them for not using spell check.
Those are tell tale sign.

17. If you're going to send a letter to a judge, it's better if it's spelled correctly |
|
(now we can have an argument about 'spelled' and 'spelt')
By the way, what's your opinion of saying someone's post is 'Republican'? Might that not be 'character assassination', rather than a post (that came complete with a smiling face) suggesting a spell check (which the thread starter took as a suggestion)?

GREAT and GR8
it does not matter, I don't think the OP is suggesting we use its model, they are making a suggestion as to what we can do to remove these partisan Judges from the Supreme Court.
With regards to your other point, I was not suggesting they where Republicans, I'm merely stating regular occurrence on this board about attack ones credibility which is what the Republicans do all the time, it is not a liberal or progressive attitude.
Better run spell check before ah get called otu.... oops nearly missed that one.. OUT.

21. And yet, at no time was their 'credibility' called into question |
|
that post was just a suggestion to use spell check. It never passed judgement on the idea of the OP.
Maybe it'd be better to credit fellow DUers with making constructive suggestions (whether or not other people use the OP as a template, it seems reasonable to believe the thread starter will use their own wording and spelling), rather than assuming that it was an attack.

7. Since the judges in question are the ones who injected politics INTO the |

justice system, I'd say that's an argument in favor or trying to remove them.

11. Thomas is still young. We may lose Scalia to old age. |
|
Scalia is in his early 70's I think. He's still energetic and forceful, but he's been showing signs of dementia for years.

It looks like a wash... Obama will replace two center-left justices; Ginsburg and Stevens, with two new center left justices...
Kennedy will be the swing vote as before but he will follow the political winds...

8. All of the chimp's appointments should be declared null and void.. |
|
The 2000 and 2004 elections were not legitimate. His "presidency" was nothing more than a hoax.
All of his appointments, declarations, proclamations, signing statements, executive orders, etc. should be rescinded, and he should face war-crimes charges, along with the rest of his thug enablers.
