1. I'm shocked at how many states flipped to a glorious blue.
Welcome to the club, new blue states--isn't it nice to not be part of Jesusland anymore?

3. It's more like Jesusland got a little more realistic.
I don't think the formerly red states are going to become skeptics any time soon.

7. No: the demographics of many of those states really are changing
and eight years of George W. Bush, plus even more years of Republican dominance, has educated a whole lot of their residents as to why far right nonsense (even nonsense that comes wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross) is toxic.

It's true that for some of these states it was a close thing, which is why it will be important to continue to work in those states to change minds, even now that the election is over. But for others, it's clearly a full Blue transformation (hi, New Mexico :-) ).

26. Whoah - although there are plenty of churchgoers there, I would never have called NM
'Jesusland'!!! (I lived there for 5 1/2 years in the 90's, and may move back).

6. I want to give special shout-out to INDIANA and OHIO.
Edited on Thu Nov-06-08 11:20 AM by Kristi1696
For turning the entire midwest (or at least the Great Lakes region) a beautiful blue. I still cry every time I look at it.

And to my home state of Michigan...you've done me so, so proud.

And, finally, to North Carolina. Nobody can deny that you are truly the South and you have shown us that the South IS rising again.

8. Thank you from Ohio!
We had some great help from out of state. We hosted folks from IL, NY and CA in our home. It was amazing to see how people dropped what they were doing and came to Ohio to help. It was a great feeling. Peace, Kim

12. Me too--for Ohio redeeming itself from 2004
by being the state that broke McCain's back this time. When he won Ohio, I LITERALLY jumped into the air and screamed. I still needed to convince my worrywart of a mother that Obama was certain to win now if he held every Kerry state, though. It was funny--just before 11 she fell asleep and Obama became President-elect a short time later. I woke her up with "Mom, you can go to bed now--we have a President-elect."

20. Same here.
My wife was really worried. When they called Ohio, I said "That's it. We've won." That was assuming we also carried all of the Kerry states, but I figured that was a certainty.

31. It's amazing how much she accomplished...
she's an energizer bunny that just won't quit. She has been blocked at every turn and yet still has won a lot of battles. If she had gotten passed into law all the protections she advocated for Ohio would have the best elections in the country.

15. You're welcome. Palin spent more time in Philly...
Than she did in any other city. And we had miserable, shitty weather every day she was here. She jinxed the hockey team and just made everybody generally cranky.

And not to mention those horrid advertisements insulting all of our delicate, liberal sensibilities. ;)

But, in the end, it was a sacrifice we were happy to make.

13. I think PA should get a special thanks.
McCain tried so hard to swing us his way, and we told him to fuck off, effectively giving the election to Obama.

Coming from the 'burbs of Philly that were red last election, I'm proud to be blue.

16. Indiana is REALLY shocking
The state voted for Bush by 21 points! For the state to go from being +20 Repubican to +1 or +2 Republican is astonishing.

The state has *almost* redeemed itself for voting for Dubya! Thank God they saw the error of their ways.

If *only* for a couple thousand votes in Missouri, we'd have completely swept the Mid-West (although Missouri is sometimes considered a Southern border state, not Midwest).

I didn't expect it although I know some people said it might go Obama. I thought they were wishful thinking. In fact, a lot of the states people said he could win, I just didn't have their optimism---although I was confident he'd get the presidency---but it turns out they were right!

19. I was overjoyed when Colorado went blue,
but also very surprised. Even the county I live in came very close to going that way. The count was very close which is something since we have Dobson's big mouth plus the entire county is very conservative.

I hope that people are finally waking up and seeing that the rethugs have given them a royal screwing and charging for the lube. Most of the diehards will never see the light, but for those who were on the fence, there is hope.

The racist sector of the population is massive. They were fired up to vote against Obama just because he was black.
