to try and compete with the democrats. The governor of california will be Antonio Villagrosa. The democratic party is much more diverse than the repuke party we have our problems too but the repuke party is an invitation only party.

1. By 2010 and 2012, ANY Republican by definition will be a token minority!

2. That's because they still just don't get it
Their running Palin is a perfect example of this. They thought - mistakenly - that because many of us liked Clinton, it must be because she was a woman. They still think we chose Obama simply because he is black. While I em excited and energized to have helped elect a black man as President, that doesn't mean it's the main reason I like him.

I support Obama for what he says, how he says it, and for his potential to be a great President, not because he's black. I doubt Condi Rice or Colin Powell would have gotten the same sort of following.

Their rather obvious missing of this important distinction says a lot more about them than it does about us, but then they never were good with nuance, were they?

9. Jesus freak fundie: first, redundant, second of course they are racists (and worse)

Republican Christian fundamentalism is the best hiding place for the severe sexually disturbed (ahem, perverts) in our society. I will say that GLBT folks grow up, pair up and live like anybody else. Fundy perverts live a lie that they cannot deal with. And, that makes them dangerous. They use racism to mask sexual "perversions".

10. And I think this is the arguement GLBT needs to use against the fundies. There are normal GLBT and
there are the perverts hidden in restrictive elements of society that cannot deal with who they are.

13. I don't think you're too far off with Steele
Ordinarily, a former Lieutenant Governor who lost a major Senate race would not come within an inch of the White House.

However, Steele may be able to pad his resume by becoming RNC chair, an office for which he's competing. Especially if he does become RNC chair, I could see him being named VP in four years.

Frankly, he'd probably be more qualified than Sarah Palin.

Another black Republican they could nominate who'd at least be somewhat qualified would be Larry Thompson, who was assistant attorney general in Bush's first term and active in Republican politics.

...he's not so popular anymore, after the whole Cheated-on-His-Wife-in-the-Mayor's-Residence-with-a-Telemundo-Newscaster thing.

14. Antonio Villaraigosa is a Democrat.
Edited on Sat Nov-08-08 02:45 AM by political_Dem
He was a California Speaker of the House from 1998 to 2000 before he ran for the office of mayor in Los Angeles. He was also a strong Hillary supporter. You can read about him http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonio_Villaraigosa">here.

But I could've blinked and he changed his party affiliation...... ;)

11. Michael Steele - the guy that compared stem cell research to Holocaust in front of a Jewish crowd?
Edited on Sat Nov-08-08 12:27 AM by LynneSin

The man couldn't even win his own state for Senate (lost by 10 points) and the guy he was Lt. Gov for also loss big in 2006.

The guy is definately a repuke - look at the crap he did in his senate race:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_S._Steele#2006_campaign_for_U.S._Senate

Steele lost the general election to Cardin on November 7, 2006, getting 44% of the vote to Cardin's 55%. The Washington Post reported that on election day the Steele campaign arranged for buses of low income people from Philadelphia to distribute fliers at polls. Some claim the flyers had incorrect information, including an implication that Michael Steele was a Democrat and that he was endorsed by prominent black leaders who had not, in fact, endorsed him.
