How do we get Reid & Nancy out of their rolls |
|
I think they have both done a awful job. Is there any way they get replaced?

1. Roles. You can call members of Congress and ask them to vote for someone else. |

3. Reid and Pelosi have both done very good jobs |
|
Edited on Thu Nov-06-08 12:05 PM by ...of J.Temperance
The proof of the pudding:
We have EXPANDED our majority in the Senate.
We have EXPANDED our majority in the House.
If you call EXPANDING our majorities in both Houses of Congress Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi doing an "awful job", then you've got some BIZARRE thinking pattern.

7. Pelosi and Reid had nothing to do with that at all |
|
You can credit Obama's rise or Bush's failure for those seat expansions but nothing either Pelosi or Reid has done has helped us electorally at all. In fact I think they made our jobs harder in these elections because they were given majorities in 2006 to hold Bush accountable and end the war and they refused to do EITHER. That made many voters skeptical that we would really represent change and helped continue that "both parties are the same" meme that is out there.

9. We will have to agree to disagree on Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi |
|
They are both Leaders within our party, and I'm not into bashing successful Democrats, sorry.
And if people thought that "both parties are the same", then the election would have been MUCH MUCH closer than it was.

12. Maybe they didn't lump Obama into that category |
|
But take a look at the down ticket races and there were a ton of close races. There was definitely some of that sentiment out there.
And what exactly have Pelosi and Reid been successful at other than falling in line with Bush's every demand?

15. But those down the ticket races didn't matter did they? |
|
What mattered was the higher up the ticket races, key Senate races, key House races, which we won, I don't believe we lost one seat.

14. Lol! Yeah WHATEVER....do a check, you'll see that neither Reid nor Pelosi are DLC |
|
Edited on Thu Nov-06-08 12:25 PM by ...of J.Temperance
So WHAT was your point AGAIN?
I'm DLC and I'm DEFENDING a good job done by Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, both of whom are NON-DLC and on a lot of things could be said to lean a bit more liberal than myself.

17. We have EXPANDED our majority in the Senate and the House |
|
So they must have done something right, or else we would have lost seats.
We lost NO seats in the Senate or the House.
So maybe people should stop bashing fellow Democrats already.

21. i'm not a democrat, i just play one on tv.. |
|
you're right; there were some pretty signifigant gains in congress for the dems. let's see if they can actually manage to accomplish something or if this is just another feel good moment like 2006. as for criticizing, or bashing as you referred to it, fellow dems; there's another website dedicated to blind faith and unquestioning loyalty:
www.freerepublic.com
i'd like to think that progressives are above giving democrats a free pass.

8. Pelosi and Reid took a gamble and won. |
|
They gambled that if the Dems played it safe, did not go after Bush, did not try to impeach him, and concentrated on trying to end the war without being too hostile, that they'd not only win the WH back, but increase their numbers in both houses. They deemed that more important than impeachment. We'll never know what would've happened had they decided to impeach - but the strategy they chose WORKED. Republicans like to screech about Pelosi/Reid and the Dems having a 15% approval rating. Uh, NO. Congress has a 15% approval rating because nothing got done due to Republicans blocking everything they tried to do - people saw that. And voted accordingly. Democrats have a 48% approval rating, last stat I heard... meaning, people trusted Dems and not Republicans, who only have a 32% approval.
Agree with their strategy or not, it worked.

13. It worked yes and that strategy was far more important than the Impeachment thing |
|
An attempt at Impeachment would have failed anyhow, it would never have got through the Senate for example.
Also it would have been seen as sour grapes and pay-back, and it would have backfired and we probably would have lost the Senate and the House as a result.
In politics the MOST important thing is winning and keeping control of what you have, because in order to put into place your policies you have to be in control....and thanks to Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, we not only are still in control, but we now have expanded majorities....now with a Democratic President as well.
Very smart politics by Reid and Pelosi in my opinion, yes their strategy worked.

19. as much as I would've LOVED to see Bush hauled before congress... |
|
...and had his ass handed to him, I think this conclusion was the safer route. NOW they can have as many hearings and investigations as they want - but even now, with so much work to do... I don't know if we can even afford it now. If they get an opening that's safe, I say take it. If not, get done as much as possible to move the country out of this cesspool Bush left us.
