Emanuel Accepts offer as Chief of Staff
Edited on Thu Nov-06-08 01:00 PM by JDwho
Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.), a wily, aggressive West Wing strategist under President Bill Clinton, has accepted the post of White House chief of staff for President-elect Barack Obama, Democratic officials tell Politico.

The selection is the first major public decision by Obama since he was elected in a landslide on Tuesday.

The announcement will send a signal that Obama is eager to work with Congress and plans a swift launch of an aggressive agenda that will focus on the economy, taxes, energy, education and health care.

1. Good. He won't be setting policy; he'll just be twisting arms.
A perfect role for him, and a good place to build a bridge to the Clintonites.

Rahm in Clinton's White House but have since been able to work together.

I'm no fan of the DLC but Rahm Emmanuel is a sharp guy.

6. He's an extremely sharp guy,
I think his only reservation was the strain on his wife & kids. I'm glad to see that he considered them. Yet, I'm more pleased that his duty to country and President elect Obama prevailed in the end.

2. That is great news.
The media (I've had CNN on this morning) was commenting that if Emanuel refused, it would look really bad for Obama....especially since Lugar announced he does not want to work for an Obama admin.

7. You think he wanted the Obama's Senate Seat but was told otherwise?

I'd rather have him as Chief of Staff than a Senator there are other choices
for Illinois I like better.

11. Change will only come when bastards like Boner are ousted or forced to assimilate.
Certain Republicans INSIST on having everything their way or no way at all. This jerk is one of those. The change here, is to make Boner completely irrelevant, so we can finally get some positive work done for the American people who need it.

10. Rahm's different from his DLC counterparts in that he'll crack heads
if he doesn't like something. The DLC is known for their mealy-mouthed, mushy middle bullshit--Rahm may be a DLCer, but he'll be a good enforcer for Obama's policy initiatives because he likes to win.
