Kent Co. GOP rat bastards |
|
Hi all,
I know I'm about 24 hours late with this, but my husband (45+ years insulin-dependent diabetic), had an urgent health problem yesterday and I was in the med station most of the day.
Anyway, the good new is that Kent County, MI (Grand Rapids & suburbs) went BLUE for the first time since 1964!!!!! YAY!!!!!!! I couldn't believe it. It was only by 500 votes, but damn it we did it.
The bad news is that the Kent Co. GOP tried their damnest to disrupt voting in the 3rd Ward, 19th Precinct on Tuesday. This ward is the largest ward in the city of Grand Rapids and is about 98% African American. The Kent Co. GOP descended on the site and tried to disrupt voting by challenging voters right and left. Election officials finally had to tell them the knock it off and let folks vote. There were lines around the block and people waited for hours, but they would not be moved. I was so proud of everyone there. AND WE TURNED THE COUNTY BLUE!!!!!!!!! They had problems there with voting delays (not enough machines) 4 years ago and the county was supposed to alleviate the problem then, but nothing was done. The mayor has been trying to get them bust the precinct up, but they didn't do dick. Maybe this will motivate them to do something. The GOP are such rat bastards, That's about the only precinct they converged upon. There weren't any at my polling place (2nd Ward, 7th Precinct). :banghead:
Glory hallelujah. Now I won't have to investigate moving to Costa Rica in January.
Cheers! :toast:

Rachel was both amazed and appreciative that Michigan has 98% of it's eligible voters registered.
That is a remarkable achievement!

They need to address this shit.
1. Standardize all federal elections 2. Mandate open source voting software, no more privately (GOP) ran elections.

3. K&R for the voter suppression file. We got our avalanche turnout to get our landslide, but |
|
we want to be sure the mid-term elections are free of trickery, so this incident should be added to the pile of evidence of problems with the system that need fixing.

Down with Betsy DeVoss!
I grew up 40 miles north of Muskegon, and this just rocks!
Maybe there is hope after all.

I couldn't believe it either. The city demographics are changing, but the 'burbs are still pretty conservative. I was shocked. Ottawa Co. is still bright red, but Obama did about 11 points better than Kerry did on '04. Muskegon Co. was bright blue! So was Montcalm Co. Newaygo Co. is hopeless...
I grew up in Charlevoix, and was thrilled that Charlevoix Co. was the first county in MI to turn blue.
Yay!
Take care,
Diane
