I'm sure there must be a law or Constitutional provision, but I can't find it.

Obviously it won't happen, that's not why I'm asking.

1. Article I, Section 6, Paragraph 2
Edited on Thu Nov-06-08 01:20 PM by TechBear_Seattle
No Senator or Representative shall, during the time for which he was elected, be appointed to any civil office under the authority of the United States, which shall have been created, or the emoluments whereof shall have been increased during such time: and no person holding any office under the United States, shall be a member of either House during his continuance in office.

In other words, if you hold any office under the United States -- that would include President and Vice President -- you cannot be a member of either the Senate or the House of Representatives for however long you hold that other office.

4. Thanks. Exactly what I was looking for.
I started reading that paragraph, and skimmed right over what I was looking for. :) It may be a beautiful document, but it's not always easy to read.

3. I knew it had to be there somewhere.
In Article I, Section 6: "... no person holding any office under the United States, shall be a member of either House during his continuance in office."

5. Obama should clone himself.
That way, he can be a Senator and a President at the same time. Same with Joebiden.
