McCain strategist drops BOMBSHELL regarding future plans: "I think he'll continue to be a maverick"

John McCain won't be standing before the American people on January 20 to be sworn in as the next president. Instead, the longtime Arizona senator will be returning to Congress, where it's expected he'll continue to reach across the Senate aisle and remain a powerful voice for the Republican Party.

"John is someone who has always served his country and he has his entire adult life, and I anticipate that after some time off, well deserved, and some time with his family, well deserved, he'll be back in Washington, rolling up his sleeves and getting back to work," John Weaver, McCain's former top campaign strategist, told FOXNews.com.

"This is his last run, obviously, for national political office, but he's still got many years of service ahead of him," Weaver said.

Weaver said he thinks McCain will be a positive voice for Republicans who will find themselves in the minority in both the House and Senate when Congress convenes in January.

"John McCain will be John McCain. I think he'll continue to be a maverick in the Senate. He'll continue to be a voice of leadership and a voice of opposition to the coming administration. And his voice will carry a great deal of weight for both the party and the country," said Michael Steele, former lieutenant governor of Maryland and chairman of GOPAC, a conservative political organization.

1. i think he'll work with Obama and senate dems a lot actually
i think if we get to 58, 59 seats in the senate, he, along with the two Maine senators, would be the most likely to move across the aisle and break a filibuster.

11. I think that Obama has nothing to lose working with him.
I'm kinda hoping that McCain turns into allie. And you're right about the votes.

31. Agreed. McCain doesn't want to leave public life with this campaign
as his final legacy. If he returns to the McCain of 2000, I'd be happy to see BHO work with him.

I honestly believe there is a part of McCain that is ashamed of himself for the way his campaign turned out. As another DUer put it, if he'd run as himself rather than as Right Wing Troll #29, this would have been a very close election and I wouldn't have wanted to predict the winner.

spent time together (other than campaigning) was when they conceived Meghan.

4. WTF does that have to do with the post. You want to slam the man
Edited on Thu Nov-06-08 08:04 PM by Rebellious Republica
on his divisive racist campaign, slam him on his poor choice for a VP candidate, slam him on his age and medical problems, thats fine. Thats all public knowledge and fair game. You have over 10,000 posts and only two years posting here, if I bothered to use the search feature, I would be willing to bet most of your posts are in GD and the Lounge. That comment is just over the line, uncalled for and not necessary in an honest political debate. Thats no better than the freepers over at the other site. Pffft!

6. Umm, excuse me? I don't need you to define what is and what isn't 'fair game,'
according to your own secret rules. I don't know why you want to believe that most of my posts are "in GD and the Lounge,"
which is wholly incorrect; or why that would matter, if it were true.

I don't have a clue what set you off, but you really should have a glass of wine or do some yoga to calm down.

Peace!

13. Yep, just what we need more divisive BS. At least Obama ran his
campaign on principles of merit and did not stoop to their level. Do you think personal attacks would have won the election, you should look to the new leader of the free world as role model and an example to follow.

This is a new generation for the new millennium, its time to act like adults and work for change. These are not my secret rules, I have been around DU for a very long time and have been tutored by the best. Most of the old timers, that I learned from and are proud to call my mentors here at DU, always conducted themselves with dignity, respect and class. They shared their knowledge and wisdom and taught me proper proper etiquette so that I might try to instill in others those same values here.

When I came over from the dark side, I found this place to be refreshing, and more in line with my own sensibilities. I found people to be friendly and welcoming, willing to share their viewpoint with me in way that other sites seemed to incite hate.

Personal attacks have never been considered fair game here, attacks on family are just in poor form.

What sets me off is seeing a site I have been coming to for years devolve into just another place for yahoos to spout ignorant, non factual, divisive rants that may turn some away that came here for the first time hoping to find a more enlightened and inspiring dialog.

But rant on, send those refugees packing that may have wanted to get away from tabloid journalism and divisive websites.

Thanks for the offer of wine and yoga, I may just take you up on that.

19. We are "underground," get that? We aren't part of the Democratic Party
and we aren't here to convert anyone--if anything, we're here to commiserate to a rowdy and very pissed-off choir.

24. So what party do you belong to, if you are not part of the Democratic party?
Edited on Thu Nov-06-08 11:37 PM by Rebellious Republica
We used to be underground, its hard to be underground when DU has been seen in the MSM, when we have been quoted on National coverage, the only thing underground about us is in name only.
Not all the choir wants to be pissed off, or pissed on for that matter! You still have not offered a thing in the way of facts. Maybe the choir does want to elevate themselves to a higher level of discourse. Apparently a majority of Americans saw a campaign with high standards of integrity. An intelligent man stepped onto the world stage and set the bar high for the rest of us follow and emulate. I worked on Obama's campaign for the last couple of month's and crap like this would not have been tolerated on the campaign trail. The standards were set high, we wanted to people to see the difference and radiate change in our attitudes and how we conducted ourselves. The GOP was waiting for red meat and the moment they smelled blood they would have been all over us. We did not give in to their taunts and allow them the satisfaction of pulling us down to there level. Some days I had to bite my tongue till it bled, but we did what we needed to do to elect someone who is truly going to transform this nation into something that we can all share the wealth of and be proud of once again.

Its probably a good thing you do not claim the Democratic Party as yours, otherwise with friends like you we would all be doomed to four more years. I truly do not understand why you want to come to DU and fight with other DU'ers unless of coarse you have some other agenda. As far as you not being here to convert anyone, I can say that I personally converted many on the campaign trail and hopefully here on DU. If we did not go out with the vision of converting anyone we would not be having conversations about President elect Obama. We would be commiserating to a really pissed off crowd of DU'ers whining about President elect McCain. No you don't have to thank myself and the many others here at DU for giving you a president that will make this a country a better place for you and your loved ones. So get the fuck off my back and bring something better than your divisive freeper style bullshit to this thread.

Hope not to see you around here in the future, oh and I would suggest having wine and yoga!

A fine glass of Riesling and and a an enchanted evening watching Oryantal dansi. I have dated a couple of Turkish, Egyptian Oriental, and American Tribal dancers myself.

The third thing are the facts that you present, which does not support hisonpetards personal attack...

23. A few things to think about, you little rebel you...
First, you'd be willing to bet that "most of" hisownpetard's posts "are in GD and the Lounge."

YOU LOSE. You want to read her profile and play Sarah Palin with her ("You have over 10,000 posts and only two years posting here, if I bothered to use the search feature")...?

You have no idea who you're screwing with. You should "bother" using the search feature so that you can actually READ some of her "over 10,000 posts" instead of attempting to blow smoke up the collected DU ass. You'd rather "bother" DU by attempting to drop a snark bomb on a woman who is your intellectual superior and...unlike you...treats everyone here with respect.

After you've done that and are sufficiently humbled by what an intelligent and articulate woman you're messing with, you can then be free to sit back, relax, and enjoy a frosty mug of STFU...it's on me.

"over the line, uncalled for and not necessary?"

Are you a Moderator? Are you Skinner, Earl G or Elad? NO?

Then keep working on that frosty mug, tough guy.

Pffft! indeed.

3. I'd make him go into every state where he ran the Rev. Wright ad and
stand along side Rev. Wright and say I'm sorry, this man is not a terrorist, anti-American. He is a Reverand, and he served honorably, as did I, in a branch of the armed services. I was wrong for using hate and divisivness to try and win an election.. Also, Barrack Obama was and is the best man for the job.. I'm much too old and would have been in over my head trying to deal with a broken economy, 2 wars, and reviving our world standing.

I never thought much of him. But in this election he stooped to the depths. Don't tell me he didn't know what was going on in his name. He either approved and condoned, or he was so out of touch, he should be put on the bench for everyone's good.

Sorry, fool me once, shame on you, shame me twice, uh, uh,....won't be fooled again!
