OP by Swag: McCain/Jeb in 08?

By Reed Hundt
...I get the strong sense the Republican ticket (as always decided well in advance) will be McCain for President, Jeb Bush for Vice President. The former has by far the most appeal to independents. The latter delivers Florida and continues the dynasty. The Democrats would have to pick a ticket that could win in Ohio and also compete in Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, and perhaps Colorado.

A McCain/Jeb ticket would be a dream come true...What with the voting scandals, Terri Schiavo and the hurricane recovery, they can't deliver Florida without cheating this time...McCain's "I'm a moderate independent" routine goes right down the drain. All we'd have to do is present the threat of the country being run by ANOTHER unstable flip-flopper extraordinaire with Jeb filling Cheney's shoes in the role of "the REAL power behind the throne"...

We Don't Have Anybody Who Can Beat McCain, According to Polls...any of our candidates lose to any of theirs except Jeb...The RW doesn't love McCain, but they would accept him since he's so old he probably wouldn't even make it through one term anyway. Is there any way we can turn this around?

...I have my doubts about McCain actually getting the nod in 08 (I think they will pick someone relatively unknown to avoid the stink of Washington). I think a great campaign ad could be made of the "hug" that McCain gave W, and the Cake pics while New Orleans drowned. That is just to start.

How does McCain keep his rep as a maverick and independent when he has spent the past six years smooching Dubya's tush?

Posted by Awsi Dooger:
Jeb essentially takes Florida out of play. That allows the GOP to focus on Ohio, Virginia and the other swing states like Iowa, Colorado, New Hampshire...It would come down to whether our ticket could hold the must states like Pennsylvania and Michigan and Minnesota and Wisconsin, and leave small states like New Hampshire and Nevada to decide the election.
