[kos] John McCain let Sarah Palin take us to the brink
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/11/6/10291/5486/339/655620

The hottest post-election gossip blazing its way across the country is, as Scout Finch noted earlier, the "revelation" that Sarah Palin was in fact even more embarrassingly clueless than her empty-headed performance over the past two months had already led America and the world to believe.

Didn't know Africa was a continent. Couldn't name the member nations of NAFTA, even though they're the immediate neighbors of the United States. And, by the way, she was never shy about parroting the crap she had been programmed with about trade, and what a genius she was on the subject because she was from a state near Russia. Or something. Also.

But think about what this means, and what almost happened to this country.
Frankly, the people who knew this about her and were still directly responsible for "vetting" her, putting her on the ticket, attempting to foist this idiot on the American people, and protecting her while there was still a chance (however theoretical) that she could become Vice President and possibly President of the United States ought to be arrested and tried for treason.

The American public, and indeed the American constitutional system, was completely unprepared for a potential disaster of this magnitude. I've said before that we were all "low information voters" now, at least with respect to being able to actually evaluate the candidates for their fitness for jobs which we were no longer permitted -- as a matter of national security -- to know the parameters of. But putting this dolt on the ticket takes us ten thousand miles into the fucking Twilight Zone.

Not that I wasn't pissed about this before, but I will NEVER forgive John McCain for lying to the country about this joke of a politician he teamed up with. She could have been the biggest disaster to ever happen to this country.

1. When McCain talked down to that one man at the town hall debate,
it was clear to me that they believe voters don't know anything and that we don't care if they do either. They were so wrong, and apparently, they don't learn from their mistakes.

3. Her placement on the ticket was a gimmick.

It damaged the hard fought battle of women in politics to be taken seriously. It made a mockery of our political system. It signaled that the republican party does not take the governing of the nation seriously. And it made fools of every American that supported the republican party in this election. John McCain dishonored this country and dishonored himself. This fiasco should follow him for the rest of his life.

5. According to the New Yorker, in an excellent article linked
somewhere on DU, Moosey was completely the creation of Billy Kristol and some other RW fanboys who, basically, had crushes on her. They refused to let Gramps pick LIEberman or Tom Ridge and basically forced her down McCain's throat. Is there a bigger fool on the planet than Bonehead Billy Kristol?

6. I remember the debate question by Gwen Ifill
about what the vice presidential candidates considered their "Achilles Heel" and she never answered the question. She didn't understand what "Achilles Heel" meant, not a clue. She is an embarrassment to intelligent, successful women, and I was offended by her nomination. We have spent literally years and years fighting against the stereotype of an empty head, but a pretty face. We pulled back from the abyss....this time. May we always stay vigilant.

7. Palin did a very effective job of showing the more educated and affluent
Republicans just how divided their Party had become. Her style and philosophy were repulsive to almost all Democrats and at least 60% of the Republicans.
