There was only ONE real maverick in this campaign cycle. |
|
Joe Lieberman.
I dislike his positions. I dislike his embrace of everything Bush and by extension his embrace of the other man who embraced everything Bush - McCain. I hated that he did not accept gracefully the decision of Connecticut Democratic primary voters. I loathed his "he hacked me!" smears about Ned LaMont. I disagree with just about every single thing the man says.
Even so,I grudgingly admire his personal "damn the torpedos" viewpoint and willingness to go all out with no restraint.
On a personal level.
But, I would still strip him of his chairmanship and I would ask him if he wouldn't be more comfortable being a Republican.

1. I don't think the ability to set aside all vestiges of shame and restraint is necessarily admirable. |
|
I agree he is a "maverick," but it's not a good thing when it's for all the wrong reasons.

He's a wrong-way Corrigan.
I wouldn't trust his "maverickiness" if my life depended on it.

3. Joe Lieberman........is simply a paranoid religious zealot...NOT |
|
any kind of Maverick..........more like a fool.
Most paranoid religious zealots have no sense of propriety....just a sense of zealousness and lack of respect for people who disagree.
Joe L. just that sort of person. Screw him....I say......expell him from the Senate for his zealotry....we need more balance people in our highest deliberative body... send him out of there without a pension.

all the time or just now?
'cause - Joe Lieberman has been out for numero uno, number 1, himself. He thought he was backing a winner and he took advantage of the moment. FUCK LIEBERMAN.

5. I can on some level respect that he followed what he thought was right, BUT -- |
|
he promised to campaign with the Democrats for the Democratic president, back in 2006.
How many people voted for him based on that knowledge? If he couldn't bring himself to campaign for Obama, he could have quietly recused himself from the whole process and let people put two-and-two together. Instead, he lied and backtracked on his promise.

6. Which is why I said I would strip him of his chairmanship and ask if he really shouldn't |
|
become a Republican OFFICIALLY.
My post was no defense of Lieberman, I was just stating that he took more of an open risk than the guy who pretended to be a maverick.

7. If by Maverick you mean party traitor then yeah, pretty Mavericky. |
|
If you noticed, there were zero pubs really campaigning with Obama. Hagel was a good guy and escorted Obama on his foreign trip, but that's about it. And you know, that's fine. I respect them more for that. Loserman has been at McCain's side the whole time, slinging some pretty lame BS. Did you see him at the GOP Convention? I suspect we'll see a fair share of grovelling. Obama probably has more patience then me, and I bet he finds a use for him. I think he deserves the boot.

8. I think technically, maverick is a steer who doesn't carry the brand of the herd |
|
and is therefore easily swept into other herds or who can wander off by themselves and is harder to identify.
And again for those who are unable to read the entire OP beyond the title, I stated that I thought Lieberman should be stripped of his chairmanship and encouraged to officially join his new herd.
