1. Yea
It is way too early to be stressing...even if she picks a few people that served under Clinton it is clear that Obama is his own man.

2. She's totally off base
Podesta will be gone after the transition is done. Axelrod and Gibbs have no connections to the Clintons. So of the 3 long term choices he's made just one has ties to the Clinton admin.

I need to cut my vacation short and get back to work. According what I've heard and read today, Obama has already fucked up his Presidency before even being sworn in. All this idiotic speculation is going to drive me insane.

On edit: I do love Rachel. It's not her. It's EVERYONE.

37. It is idiotic, which is particularly irritating since she is so bright & knows better.
She's hyping the drama to keep her ratings up. Her constant, exaggerated facial expressions and intonations come off to me as talking down to and trying to manipulate people. Is she capable of a calmer, more serious presentation? I get enough droll political humor and commentary from Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. Someone remind Rachel she's not on the Comedy Channel. I found her entertaining for a few weeks and then found her irritating. If she develops some more confidence in the value of her comments and analysis, maybe she'll dial down the hyper delivery.

I think her "concern" persona makes for a useful way to introduce more progressive positions in a non-threatening way to people who have NO EXPOSURE to anything resembling real liberalism...

if we don't push these "centrists" back... I had a feeling this would happen especially after how these so-called centrists behaved while the Dems had the majority. Let's all look at all that really bad legislation that Bush wanted passed and see how many of these centrists voted for it too. Me thinks these "centrists" also love the Bush tax cuts.

12. The Talk Me Down segment isn't about Rachel.
Edited on Thu Nov-06-08 09:29 PM by Gregorian
She's playing the role of a concerned viewer. That's my take on it.

There is no way Rachel Maddow does not know the answer to the question she asks during these segments.

I seem to recall the same posts on this forum when Colbert's show first started. There was a lot of talk about how he was really a conservative.

By the way, it took me quite a while to really discover that Victoria Jackson wasn't playing her role. But Rachel isn't Victoria, by any means. Haha.

33. AMEN!
I love her show, and I am sick of people bitching about her. "Talk me down" expresses particular concerns and asks for reasons NOT to be concerned. The segment generally diffuses whatever the topic was. Are people here too dense to understand that??? I expect more of DUers! :wtf:

21. Allowing more mergers of media companies...
...and of financial companies.

Ideally, the government would be breaking up huge corporations.

But Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) is considering changing the law to allow a single bank to have over 10% of the nation's deposit money.

31. I'm anxious to see how effective two ex-Senators (Obama and Biden) will be
in influencing the legislature to get their programs through, such as a reform of healthcare. I think it's very premature and unfair to try to prejudge how the Obama administration might govern at this point. I'm hoping that Obama will find a very receptive legislative body before him, eager to consider his programs for reform. And since his coattails in this past election were very long, I think that gives both Democratic and Republican legislators coming up for re-election in 2010 something to seriously think about. Having an amazing campaigner like Obama on your side or against your side in 2010 could be a factor in their minds.
