Alter on Lieberman: "You don't want revenge to be too expensive" |
|
A compromise may be the best solution -- take his committee chairmanship away but let him stay in the caucus and give him some minor subcommittee to chair. I agree and I think that would fit the Obama-style of governing.

or at least asked for some time to think about it anyway.

6. If Connecticut had a Democratic governor I'd say the best solution would be: |
|
make him Secretary of Homeland Security.
Unfortunately, CT gov is a Republican.

9. Yes. I heard someone else recommend something like that but the Repub Gov complicates that solution. |
|
Maybe they can do a three way negotiation with the Gov and throw him a bone of some sort.

even if it resulted in his replacement with dem, you do not reward his behavior, not if you want a functional political party.

7. I'm missing what the expense would be. |
|
Lieberman is one vote and that is all, and it is a vote that for the last 8 years has never been there when it really mattered. Fuck Joe.
As somebody else noted, this is it seems what Reid offered, and it is also likely that that fucking arrogant asshole said no thanks, as if he has a choice.

8. hmmmm -- those seem like the tactics that left dems in the loser column. |
|
how about dems BE dems -- let liberal/progressive republicans{which lieberman is} find their own way in the wilderness.

14. he can stay and caucus with the dems but will he if he's stripped of his chairmanship? |
|
at this point i don't care, he does not deserve to keep it and that's not about revenge, it's about trust and it's gone, once that happens it doesn't come back.

16. He was elected with virtually the entire GOP vote in CT.... |
|
....and about 20% of DINO nutmeggers. 80% of CT DEMS wished to be represented by someone else.
He's effectively a republican and the DEM caucus no longer needs his vote.
This is an easy one.

How many times does he have to stab them in the back for them to get the message?

20. Alter also said that Obama changed the electoral map so that he won't NEED |
|
Holy Joe to get Senate approval for his agenda. He said that the fact that Iowa and Maine, for example, are now solidly blue (and, I would presume, MN) and thus people like Snowe and Collins and Grassley (!!) would be feeling some pressure to support Obama's proposals.

21. Yeah, getting cloture votes is not quite as hard as full "Yes" votes |
|
Especially when you only need about 4-5 of them.
