1. If two candidates are equally qualified, I wouldn't mind
giving the edge to the person who provides more diversity... America is comprised of more than just white males.

5. Oh good grief.
what about the content of one's character being more important then the color of one's skin? It should not matter. NOW of ALL TIMES....IT SHOULD NOT MATTER.

8. Well I'm just saying... if all things are equal (character, etc.)... the question is whether
to go with the white guy OR the woman or racial minority.... Am I missing something?

3. It doesn't have to be proportional,
but I would assume that the best and brightest will include a mix of races/nationalities.

6. That's my assumption. I can't remember which media figure said it -
but they were paraphrasing Obama as saying that his cabinet would be "naturally diverse."

7. Yes, but that shouldn't be the only criteria.
The Bush administration looked like America. That was token diversity.

12. BINGO! Exactly! Bush chose people representing various races/ethnicities,
but it meant nothing about how policy actually affects people form all walks of life.... it was all about appearances and attracting votes by putting tokens on display.

Very good point!

13. Well, seeing as how minorities and women work harder
to get to the same place, I think that in the "all-else-being-equal" scenario they are likely to be the better choice.

14. Do we really need a Joe the Plumber or Sarah the cheerleader in the administration?
Its time for excellence for a change and administration with whomever the best qualified will be. Palin was a diversity choice over competence and I didn't like it when McCain did it.

16. It should look like the FUTURE of america... bright, smart, open and pragmatic
Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 09:02 AM by Essene
It shouldnt be a traditional group of elders mixed with a few future party up'n'comers.

His cabinet must be EXTREMELY competent.

He needs to send a message that's less ideological and more about pragmatism, in a way that reflects the future of america.

Younger people. Diverse. Outspoken. Extremely bright. Bi-partisan.
