Election night excluded, what's the most memorable moment from this campaign?
For me, it's when McCrazy suspended his campaign and stomped off the stage. What a pretentious jackass.

22. I was going to say Al Gore's speech at the convention
He said this one line, which is just startling true. Words to the effect, what we have now is what the Republicans always wanted. How did they get it, by gaining control over the three branches of government. How is that working out for you?

Republicans have wanted a long time to change the labor laws. Make non-exempt people exempt, work them overtime and do not pay them. Take away benefits and make workers pay for their own insurance, etc. Pay by the hour so you can save money by not paying for people's time when you don't need them. Cover absences by making those who do show up do the work of those who didn't (you got to be a team player!)

And why pay for holidays when nobody is working? Do away with Social Security, Medicare - pull yourself up by your bootstraps (didn't quite get there yet, still working on it).

You know the rest.

Sam

people that they were outnumbered. A warm memory from a chilly January day.

5. so many to choose from. But that economic meltdown really revealed McCain
"The economy is fundamentally sound". "Let the free market work". "We need to regulate banks". He was all over the issue. Every side every other hour.
And oh god, the Couric - Palin interviews.

I probably had the shortest Q&A with Obama:
me: fairness doctrine?
o: No
me: internet neutrality?
o: absolutely
me: thank you

16. Yes, that's a good one too.
I was awake, listening to the radio. Somebody got word that Joe had family and Secret Service people showing up at his house. The news broke before they had a chance to send out their text messages (or whatever they were going to do). Very exciting.

17. For me it was Obama's "A More Perfect Union" speech on race
At the time, I was considering switching my support to Hillary, because I couldn't see how Obama could withstand the endless barrage of Rev. Wright attacks. DU was going crazy then, with some Hillary supporters calling Obama supporters 'cult members' and screaming about how he would never get elected.

But I waited to see Obama's speech on race and Rev. Wright. And once I saw it, once I heard him talking to the American people like adults, I said, "This is the man I'm going to support, come hell or high water. This is the kind of man we need leading the country."

Apparently I wasn't the only one thinking that. :)

19. When Obama said, "It's like they take pride in being ignorant."
That's when I knew he would take his gloves off when he needed to, and that his campaign was wisely playing their cards close to their chest. I thought it was an eloquent zinger and I've used it many many times since.

And Obama's speeches always kept me rapt and fully convinced.

28. Sept 15th...A date which will live in infamy*
McCain on the state of the economy (in the space of a couple of hours):

During a rally in Jacksonville, FL on September 15th, Senator McCain adamantly reasserted that, despite the failure of yet another major financial institution, Lehman Brothers, precipitating a 500+ point plunge in the DOW, that "the fundamentals of our economy are strong."

In a second speech in nearby Orlando, FL just hours later, Senator McCain had this to say about the state of our economy:

"I know Americans are hurting, and the fundamentals of our economy are at risk. They're at risk. <...> Our economy is at risk today."

This HAS to be the fastest flip-flop in history

after he lost the NH Primary. He kept the narrative going, saying it would be tough, but there is nothing wrong with hope despite what the critics would say.
