Cnn is running some of their whining from today, i take this as a good sign, Obama said he work across the aisle but he never said he'd cave into these assholes.

RW, The Whitehouse, not yours.

Pretty much runs the place. If you want to speak to the President, you have to go through him. When I was in college, in our political science classes, we were taught the Chief of Staff is almost like the President's bodyguard. He handles his schedule, who speaks to him, and manages the WH staff. Its a stressful job.

for veterans (I am a vet) PLUS he made sure only pro-war DEMS were house candidates for the 2006 elections when he was head of the House DEMS campaign committee. that being said, I could care less who Obama chooses for anything because I don't expect much from him anyway. attempts to whitewish that vile PRICK Emmanuel are quite laughable, though.

54. That is one way to look at it. I know that him and Obama do not see eye to eye on several
issues. Health care and NAFTA naming just a couple. I would assume that by Emanuel accepting the position, he would not be advocating his own views over that of his bosses. I will trust Obama to do the right thing and stick to his guns when it comes to what he said in his campaign.

Obama said he would reach across the aisle, not bend over. They are so transparently vile. When they barely win, it's 'Fuck you, Democrats!' When we decisively win, they remind us how we need to govern center right. Obama won, and he will govern as he sees fit, not how these hypocritical snakes want him to.

not that he will wake up with a horse's head in his bed, but that some other Republic will wake up with *his* head in their bed.

Having said that, Barak Obama has every reason to believe that the last neo-theo-cleptoCons hiding in the caves up in the mountains will
employ assymetrical warfare as a strategy.

Therefor it is better to request civility through the consigliari that also carries his own garrote than from some other, less respect inducing individual?

69. Here's Al Giordano's take on Rahmbo..
<snip>

"Here's a theorem for the coming weeks and months before President-elect Obama's January 20, 2009 inauguration: The volume of teeth-gnashing and Chicken Little-ing from my friends and colleagues about what moves Obama makes during the transition will be inversely proportional to the amount of work they did to get him there.

Here's why I like the news that US Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Illinois) is moving from the US House to the White House to be Obama's chief of staff.

It puts him under the control of Obama (and David Axelrod, who now heads to Washington as senior advisor to the president).

Yes, Emanuel is "the enforcer." Yes, his voting record and considerable accomplishments in Congress are not what I would call progressive. You can read all about the problems with Rahm courtesy of a September David Sirota column. Heck, I fully expected to be spending the next couple of months fighting against Rep. Emanuel's rumored efforts to sneak the US-Colombian trade agreement through the lame duck Congress while President Bush would still be there to sign it.

But now Rahm is going to be kept very busy with other things.

As for his enforcer persona, I think it's a good message to send to all that are scheming to try and roll the Obama presidency. Obama needs somebody that Congress fears. Just listen to the Chicken Little screeching from the right wing pundits over Emanuel and you can get an idea of exactly why he's the man for the job.

The White House Chief of Staff has no constitutional authority. His only potential power is that of controlling who gets the president's ear. Having Axelrod a door or two over ensures that there will be more than one route to the Oval Office. And I'm not worried about Obama surrounding himself with "yes men and women" or not seeking out dissenting opinions: it's just obviously not his nature to let himself be put or kept in the dark.

So, welcome, Rahm, to the team!"

70. THE PRESIDENCY IS A HIGHER CALLING THAN PARTISAN POLITICS
Mr. Obama will soon find his own illusions about the world eroded and washed away. He will find the presidency is a higher calling than any partisan politics outside the executive office, and that he can call upon a greater wealth of intelligence, including wisdom of experience, than he ever dreamt was humanly possible. What he might achieve depends on both the extent of his own capacity and on whether he knows and can build a staff capable of knowing what really is "good, wise and true".

As John Winston Lennon said "everything is what it isn't".
