So what's YOUR post-Election Republican run-in story?
On election night, when Ohio was announced for Obama, my best friend's roommate came out of his room and started pissing and moaning about all the liberals taking over. He got so loud and annoying, that I asked him if he could please leave the room so we could continue to watch the coverage.

He then snarled "Don't tell me to leave the room, I LIVE here! Tell me that again and I'll bash your face in!" At that point the whole room rose against him, calling him out for his two votes for Bush, and he did (finally) stalk back to his room. He came back out, quietly, to hear Obama's victory speech--and then announced he was going to bed.

The rest of us stayed up drinking and celebrating way past our bedtimes. If he complained about the noise, we never heard him.

2. My Republican relatives are very, very quiet. No emails,
no right wing talking points, just silence. Like nothing ever happened.

my husband is AA. my family loves him.

not one email, phone call or anything. i guess i thought...he's a beloved family member, at least they might check in with how he was feeling.

for all in know, my mom may have voted for Obama...but it dawned on me last night that not even my sister felt like saying anything to my husband :(

that probably shouldn't bug me i guess...but it kinda does

4. All the nastiest, meanest, smug Republicans at work....
have looked really distressed the last two days. I love it. They are really horrible people, and it's undeniably pleasurable to see them so shocked and unhappy.

On the good side, I found out several people voted Obama whom I would not have guessed to be Dems.

6. I texted quite a few relatives with PIC of results on TV
and said OBAMA DID IT!

I had an idiot uncle actually reply:

"Let us hope that the fabric of this great country can withstand the coming changes!"

I am like WTF?!?!?! so I typed back:

"We survived 8 years of Bush. After that we can survive anything."

Then he replies (you will not believe this):

"One fear--that German voters might have believed something along that line in 1933."

Soo.....needless to say, he's off my Christmas card list. I hated the idea of Bush coming...but I never came anywhere near to feeling about a new president before he's even been sworn in.

14. It might be fun to remind him....
...that the little mustachioed Austrian guy he want so badly to name drop was a big friend and crony to Prescott Bush, Duhbya's grandpappy.

I always use that whenever some Bushtard brings up Adolf.

Shuts their ass up in a big hurry. ;)

8. The guy in my office
We sit at desks about 20 feet apart. He still thinks Bush is great. He is normally pretty chatty and friendly but has been almost completely silent for the past two days. Someone came in today and asked him how he felt about the election -- I sure can't bring myself to ask him -- and he was going on about how much he "loves" (yes, "loves") Palin, agrees with all of her policies, thinks she's very "real," etc. He is very skeptical that Obama will be able to accomplish anything and has been saying around the office, "Watch your wallet!" He's convinced Obama's going to raise everyone's taxes. I look at the magnificent, jubilant response Obama's election received on Tuesday night from the country and the world, and I think, "Watch you wallet? Is that all you can see about this incredibly historical, moving, and important event?" And isn't it this guy's president who has presided over the ruin of the American economy?? Watch your wallet??

9. I was accused of bashing a co-worker and a guest at the hotel when I hadn't even been
here for two days.. The one time I did see this guest, she said, "are you watching Fox News yet?".. AND I politely told her, "I don't watch Fox News, I don't prefer that channel." As she was leaving the office, she said.. or rather screamed back in at me, "You need to watch Fox News to get your facts straight, and stay off those internets."

I came back on Wed.. a bit late, and my G.M. was jumped all over.. the co-worker and this guest asked her if she was happy.. I'm quite sure they said something racist as well.

When I came in she was trying to be as polite about telling me to hide my excitement because some might not be as happy as the two of us were. I told her, I know who you are talking about, and they shouldn't have jumped all over you because of Obama... AND that I was being very gracious because I know how they acted when Bush was elected, twice...

Essentially, the guest refused to talk to me at all, even when I said hello and how are you? My co-worker tried to be a bitch until she realized that all I was talking about was work related matters. I guess they don't understand that just because I have a view point on govt and what is going on in the country, state, and local region, doesn't mean I do so in a bash session... tax disputes, property amendments, politicians.. etc. are a democracy... I'm not into bashing.. Yes, I'm sooo freaking happy that we have what we have at this moment.. but I'm not an asshole, and I like the way Obama has handled himself.. I was personally getting angry and pissed and fealt that our govt was over and it didn't work. I wanted to crush them.. but they are Americans, and in order to be a fellow American, I can't dictate to them how they should think.. but if I lead in a discussion or react with a no drama mode, perhaps, they will be much more open to listening and perhaps appreciating their President Obama too.

10. First there's this
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x8216328

Today I stopped at the liquor store and a "heated" discussion was going on between the the clerk and the guy I think is either the owner or one of the managers.

I got to the counter and heard the guys saying something about, "He was sitting there during all those sermons. Sarah Palin was really cute though something something something.." to which I blurted out, "She's an idiot!"

The clerk jerked towards me and said rather loudly, "THANK... YOU!"

13. Hahaha. Your avatar.
That totally caught me by surprise. OMG.

Well, I don't have a story because I just came back to life. One bottle of champagne, and I was trashed. I mean, hanging by the shower curtain for hours, in bed until 5pm.

November 5th 2008- the last time I ever have a hangover.

Never mind. Carry on. :)

11. My Father
Edited on Thu Nov-06-08 10:51 PM by azurnoir
Now I am 52 and he is 91, but 32 years ago when I married a Black man he was an asshole, neither he or my mother came to the wedding, at the time he had the financial and political clout to literally keep me from getting a student loan or grant of any kind even though I had scored in the top 2% of SAT's proclaiming "if your marrying one I will make sure you live like one", there were also a couple of job losses early on where I was suddenly fired and his name was dropped in the process. He seemed to change somewhat over the years becoming friendly with my husband even after we were divorced and quite close to my daughters-until today that is, when he reverted to kind and spewed some of the most racist crap I've in years and also claimed Sarah Pailin was a brilliant women. Now mind he left the RNC which he was a member of over Terry Schiavo, so go figure. As far as I know he is mentally intact or had seemed so but.... I have to remind myself that he's 91 and probably won't be around long but it is hard.

edited to add: upon rereading my post it occurred to me that years ago I told him this day was coming and he said never and more than anything else he hates to wrong about anything, he's had to "eat crow" enough over the years

16. oh wow...after reading that, i feel bad for just whining that my family hasn't called my husband...
just to see how he feels

i'm sorry you have had to go through that

as annoying as my family can sometimes be, i realize that, for having deep, deeeeep roots in rural East Texas, i am actually blessed to have their love and support as much as we do.

12. I walked into work Wed to hear the boss & 2 VPs dissing Palin
so I joined right in about how great it was that Obama got elected, and they looked at me like I'd just taken a crap on the floor.

Turns out they were blaming Palin for "their" loss.

"Well I am seriously worried about socialism" says one

"What, the same socialism we had under Clinton? For God's sake, he's only proposing that we just go back to the same tax rates"

Now they looked at me like I was pushing beans into my nose and spinning in circles - I said the "C" word in public!!!!

"And he just appointed a Clinton Crony as Chief of Staff! Socialism."
"Well, maybe he'll TRY to do a good job."
"Just so long as he doesn't destroy the pharmaceutical industry" says the boss.

Ugh. I really wish I were back at my old job, where there were 75 employees, and only 2 were Republicans.

18. I've been picking
on my old man for the last two days.
I keep texting him things like: "President Obama. Just say it once", "O-BA-MA! O-BA-MA!", and "They call me Mr. President Barack Hussein Obama."

I can't wait till I go visit at Christmas.

20. Like it never happened.
I spend my work days traveling to and working in retail stores in NW Montana. It tends to be pretty conservative up here.

On Tuesday everyone was talking about voting. Snow was falling and there was a bit of excitement in the air.

Wednesday was a 13 hour work day. 5 hours traveling, the rest working inside around people in small town stores where everybody knows each other. I never heard the election mentioned. Not once.

I had the same schedule 2 years ago for the mid-term election. I remember hearing plenty of talk about our Senate race between Tester and Burns.

21. A couple hours after the announcement we were at a local
watering hole downtown, Darwin's Theory, (who would think that you would find repugs in a place named this) every one cheered when we walked in with our signs except for them. They were sitting around with long faces like their puppy died. Most of their coneversation was slamming Palin for losing it for McCain (how that is possible when he couldn't fill a small room if he was giving away free beer and ten dollar bills). By the end of the night I got into a conversation with them and we actually all sang happy birhtday to one of the repugs.
Not exactely a shouting match moment but more along the lines of normal Alaskan politics.

23. Before Obama won, I had a table stolen from me by pro-McCain girls
at the party I was at

They made snide remarks to me, since I was wearing an Obama sticker ("Did your tax dollars pay for that?") and told me I was disrespectful to women when I asked for my table back. I shot back "Your VP candidate believes in punishing rape victims. Who disrespects women again?"

Then, after Obama won, I walked up to them with the biggest shit-eating grin and "danced around the Republicans." They responsed by ripping up my Obama sticker. Sore losers.
