Yes we did? or: We can learn a lot from a 6 year-old. |
|
Edited on Thu Nov-06-08 11:27 PM by Fran Kubelik
Tonight as I was helping my son fall asleep, the following words of wisdom came out of this amazing 6 year-old's mouth:
'I'm kind of sad that the election is over, because I won't get to hear "Yes we can" anymore. Hey mom? I was looking at your computer and it said "Yes we did," but we didn't yet. Obama wasn't saying yes we can get him elected. He was saying yes we can make the country better, and we haven't done that yet.'
You know what? He's right. Let's take a moment and bask of the glow of our victory, but then let's remember that the reason we loved this candidate is because he empowered US to be the community organizers who change the world for the better. WE are the ones we have been waiting for.
YES WE CAN!!!

6. On monday his teacher asked them to write down what they would do if they were president |
|
She said most of the kids wrote things like "I'd give everyone in America a present!!"
My son wrote down these four things:
Health care for everyone. Jobs for everyone. End the war. Take care of the earth.
I am so proud. :patriot:

Stop treating me like a baby. And NO, I'm not going to clean my room or wash my hands or brush my teeth. Get off my case!

17. Wow, he sounds like an astute young man |

But, he is right. We have done something by electing Barack Obama and Joe Biden, but we have a long way to go. We have an economy to repair, a Constitution to piece together, a global reputation to rebuild, a war to finish, a group of people to give full civil rights to, a health care system to overhaul, and a education system to fix. However, I believe the American people (besides the knuckle-draggers) made the best decision by electing these two, and the Cabinet and ranks of advisers, to accomplish all of these things and more.
Keep your son active in watching politics, especially if he is this observant now. That's what my parents did, and I am a better person for it. He will thank you later.
