Barack Obama is the President-Elect ...
During the primaries, I bitched about Obama not fighting back, not hitting Hillary hard enough. "He's too nice. He needs to attack more."

The general election campaign was more of the same. "He's not hitting McCain hard enough. Why doesn't he go after Palin?"

Now, during the transition, I find myself worrying about his staff and cabinet choices ... and it's been only a little over 48 hours! He's not even in the White House yet and here I am, saying "WTF?"

And then it hit me.

After all this time, I'm still sitting here bitchin' as if I know better than him ... and Barack Obama is the President-Elect.

I'm an idiot.

1. To admit when you are wrong is a sign of strength and maturity.

2. Hope I can borrow your pic!
"I GOT THIS" is so freaking PERFECT!

You're no idiot - you're invested and involved. We'll all have to stay that way to turn this conglomeration back into the United States of America, and, Yes. We. Can.

6. Want another idiot moment from one who was there this Halloween?
Answered the bell, another kid in a great-looking costume.

Costume is Darth-Vaderish black but with a Jawa twist - the red eyes, lit up, tracking side to side. Kid was about 8 or 9, "Trick or Treat".....

Me: Here you go, what a great costume! Wow, folks, come look at this one! (We were all in the garage, with the trick-or-treaters coming to the side door)
Kid: Thanks, everybody, my mom made it!
Me: Well, she must be really good - how in the world did you guys do the EYES??

Kid: (very laconically and sardonic) Batteries.

Me:

I sat down, ignored myself and others for 5 minutes, and have gotten the same answer from spouse/friends(?)/family every time I've asked a dumb question since then.............. :P

I was telling said spouse tonight, that after January 20, WE need to........(take your pick). If you are an idiot, then so is at least half the rest of us! Thank god we can all STAY involved, and not just go back to our mundane joe-6pack lives!

8. I think it's a major mistake to somehow deify this man.
If there's anything that we should have learned these past couple of years, it is that we have a responsibility to hold our leaders' feet to the fire. Do not make the mistake of putting our nation's fate completely in the hands of anyone; not even Barack Obama. This was a "bottom up" election process, for the first time, probably, since our nation was created. Let's keep it that way.

Hold his feet to the fire. He represents US, not vice versa.

10. Don't worry about it, the M$M will always be on him
In a way they never did during the last 8 years.

We aren't deifying anyone. We're just supporting someone we know is smart and not just a figurehead puppet of some evil cabal. That's what we were used to for the past 8 years.

The point of the OP is that Obama knows what he is doing, so if we disagree with him on something, we might want to consider his record for being right before being so sure we are. That's how one should approach any issue on which there are those whose opinions we might want to respect even if we disagree.

In like manner, we ignore freeper and other such opinions because we know they are hot air not based on anything.

12. Let's just say that we shouldn't have blind trust in this man, then?
I know what you mean about the mainstream media, though.

I've noticed the stink about Rahm being appointed his Chief of Staff--they are saying that he's an old hand in that arena. Then, on the other hand, they attack Obama for being inexperienced. So, he's not supposed to put an experienced person in the position, while at the same time, if he puts someone inexperienced in, they will raise hell. The man is going to have a hard time, it's plain to see already, satisfying anyone in mainstream media. (Oh! THAT'S right; they're the rightwing media and God himself couldn't satisfy them if he had a (D) next to his name.)

What I'm saying is this, though: We've elected leaders who don't do a damned thing about what WE want--ie., Pelosi and Reid. And this has been a "bottom up" election. We don't need to ever let Obama forget that (or for that matter, any other Dem), so we, as a people. have got to DEMAND that the things that we want done are done. I am not one for the "Daddy" politician who always knows best. I think that we are an informed people (most Dems are, anyway) and they ought to listen to us, and if they can't institute the changes necessary to do what WE think needs to be done, then we'll replace their asses.

9. Obama DID hit back all during the general election & never hesitated to do so
Each and every time that the McCain campaign ran negative BS against him, Obama never failed to answer back at McCain with a zinger of his own. Don't you remember all the times Obama would be making a speech and he'd mock McCain for something McCain or Palin had said about him? Obama took their little pebbles and returned the favor by hurling bricks back at them.

Barack never hesitated to launch his counter attacks, and that is what kept any of McCain's attacks from ever gaining any momentum.
