Let's hear it for the youth vote, which represented strongly for Obama. |
|
Youth vote made up 18 percent of the electorate this time but voted Obama in a 2 to 1 ratio over McCain. This substantial chunk of the vote, at such a differential, is very likely to have made the difference in critical close states like IN, NC, and VA.
The turnout of youth, which I understand was in the 50-55ish percent range, was still less than the population overall, but represented an improvement over 2004, and the margins were so great that it really did have significant impact.
Furthermore, these engaged youth represent 20-40 years or more of Democratic votes, party identification, and ACTIVISM.
So, a toast to the youth of America. :toast:

2. They phone banked, they canvassed, they stood in line for hours to vote. |

The traveled to battleground states and slept in sleeping bags on strangers' floors. They helped give us our country back!
You are so right. They are HEROES!
