1. Woo Hoo!!!! That's where we were!!!
That's where the Georgetown Law troops descended en masse - there were more than 200 of us in Norfolk/Va Beach.

Very exciting!!!

Thanks for the heads up!

4. Thank you jsmirman for helping to free us.
Winning Hampton Roads is a major coup. Poor Virginia Beach was not quite able to throw off all the shackles , still counted as McCain. But almost everywhere else went Obama - Norfolk, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Hampton, Newport News etc.

5. You're very welcome - we had such a wonderful time!
I think the folks running the staging areas were surprised - they were like "we're out of packets, they're all done!"

We met a wonderful couple with their awesome rescue dog named "Buddy" and met such great people at the first staging area, too... such great people out in the neighborhoods also - I joked to my friend, "I don't mean to be racist, but let's be honest, these folks LOVE to see a white man hustle!"

The people of the Norfolk area were wonderful and the party on the pier was off the charts!!!

6. Thelma ran a really terrible campaign on a level with Liddy Dole
Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 07:32 AM by Phoebe Loosinhouse
In one of her debates with Glen Nye she came out of the gate with a scurrilous, incorrect charge that he had wrongly claimed a homestead exemption on a house in DC he owned with his brother WHILE HE WAS IN IRAQ!!!! She said it was clear he was unethical. This came out of nowhere and pretty much set back the entire debate. This charge was later totally refuted by DC that said he had every right to claim the exemption.

Next thing on Thelma's aggenda was to suggest that he had not earned a civilian award he was given for participating in hostage negotiations as a State Department employee. Like she would know! A lot like suggesting John Kerry didn't earn his Purple heart.

Thelma was a complete George Bush tool. She was one of the most lock step Repubs in existance. When Jim Webb's first round on the new GI Bill came up - she voted against it and said her reason was that she thought Bush would veto it! Now, this is pretty much political suicide in this area that is all military bases, and retirees. She did vote the next time for it, but by then I think her goose was cooked. Military folks keep a sharp eye on things and they know exactly who's in their corner and who isn't.

So once again, I think if she had focused on issues instead of personal destruction, she might have had a chance. She could have even made a compelling arguement for why she voted against the first version of the GI Bill, but she did not handle that very well either. Oh well, sad. Not.
