ABC News: Senator Clinton for Secretary of State or Secretary of Defence
Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 10:31 AM by RMP2008
Per George Stephanopolous on GMA. Other candidates are Nunn, Lugar, Kerry and Richardson. I'd love to see Senator Clinton have a prominent role in our president-elect's admnistration though.

1. We need her in the Senate!
Let's pick cabinet members that are not in the Senate if possible...

And NY does have a tendency for competitve senate races (something that we don't need)

and now that every move she makes will no longer be filtered through Presidential ambitions, she has potential for greatness in the Senate.

Hillary could whip our votes into shape with no problems.

I think Blue Dog issues would be much lessened if she takes over for Harry Reid.

that is not the same thing as saying no when the job is actually offered to you by the President. I take Lugar's "not interested" in the same vein as every person who is ever rumored to be a VP candidate. None of them are ever interested.

I'll bet no more than 2 sitting Congressmen or Senators will wind up in the cabinet, yet they're mentioned for every post. There are always, always more unknown, non-household names that get appointed than not.

27. HRC chose committees like HELP
It was only later that she was added to Armed Services - and she is not on SFRC. Given that half the Clinton supporters came out of the woodwork yesterday to attack Kerry's credentials - even though he was called a foreign policy expert before the Clintons arrived in DC, this may be why.

I think Kerry, Susan Rice, Richardson, Albright, Holbroke, and likely many others would be better. In addition, there is the problem of Bill Clinton. Obama needs to make this HIS Presidency. It is not a co-Presidency with the Clintons.

62. I was referring to all the posts written yesterday on at least three threads
Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 01:32 PM by karynnj
I am not speaking of the Clintons ( other than to say that foreign policy was not HRC's major interest area - I would assume she would say that health care and education are and that having a Clinton as the SoS would make it harder for Obama to be seen as his own man) - I am speaking of the DU people, many of whom were Clinton supporters, who attacked Kerry every time his name comes up.

Did you miss the 100+ threads?

is for her to be Senate Majority Leader.

I haven't completely agreed with all the Reid hate on DU as of late, but I've changed my mind on that too.....basically from ease-dropping on right wing hate radio...they make fun of him mercilessly for being such a milquetoast....I'd love to see Hillary take charge in that role.

But I'd be cool with Secretary of State too.......and I think the world would love it, too.

65. I agree - Kerry spoke of change in foreign policy since 1966 - a change we never really have had
Kerry was against a foreign policy that built the School of the Americas and covertly funded the Contras, who were right wing thugs guilty of atrocities. It was not just the Republicans who supported them it was half the Democratic party.

Looking at what Kerry has fought, with political cost to himself, and what he has said in speeches, he is a strong force for change in foreign policy. As either the chair of the SFRC or SoS, he will be one of the voices Obama listens to as he forms his foreign policy.

If Obama did that I might cry for joy. He really does care about Clinton supporters. I mean, I know he always has... he showed that in how graceful he was towards her. BUT, if he is really considering her for a role in his administration, even if he doesn't pick her, it is the thought that counts.

THANK YOU PRESIDENT OBAMA!

I think she can do a lot of good in that area, as she has already demostrated. Why not let people who are less easily misled by blatently false evidence handle matters of state and defense. There's too much at stake.
