Larry Wilmore on the Daily Show: "Why do you think Jesse Jackson was crying?"
"As of Tuesday night, he's out of a job!"

1. Or ... because his son might get Obama's Senate seat.
I'm kind of pulling for Jan Schakowski, but don't discount the local interest in that. (Not to mention Rahm Emmanuel's House seat).

2. Is she being considered? That would be awesome.
I like Jesse Jr. too, but Jan S. has been a stalwart progressive populist in Congress, and as a Senator she'd be even more awesome.

8. Yes, she is definitely one of the people being discussed as "likely"
And (somewhat surprisingly), she is on good terms with Governor Blagojovich, who is the "decider" on this issue. Not many people are on good terms with him.

3. I know like people to make him a punch line
but he has devoted his life to civil rights. Imagine being there when King died and then watching the first African-American president be elected. That's nothing to trivialize.

9. I haven't seen that Daily Show yet, but Wilmore's line out of context...
...appears to celebrate Jackson's life in civil rights, rather than deriding it.

It's funny to pretend, for a second, that Obama's election win means that the struggle is over, and that Jesse Jackson's tears might be merely selfish.

I can understand how making this joke could offend, but I think that because it's so clearly a joke, it rocks.

12. Hear hear. This is a tender moment for many African Americans (and others also). Jay Leno should
be ashamed of himself for not being a bit more sensitive. Some things just aren't worth the laugh.

4. What an asshole.
It was very obvious why he was crying.
