Poll question: What does California care about more?
Now that props 8 and 2 passed what do the care about?

PS. prop 2 means farm animals will get their rights to exercise.

8. How am I being judgemental?
I don't think most people give two flips one way or another over these issues. They may have opinions, but they don't really go out of their way to express them. If I'm being judgement, it's in that I'm accusing people of being most apathetic about these issues, which frankly, I think they are. Shoot me if that's a crime.

13. You are a total ass
for saying such a terrible thing.

My guess is that you were on the "Hope your house burns down" bandwagon during the wild fires that raged through our state.

BTW - without us horrible fuckers in CA, you might be saying President Elect McCain.

17. I'm an ass??!? Huh?
For pointing out how apathetic most people are to these issues? Really?

I think your anger is way, way misplaced here. Most people are pretty casual voters - they are not died-in-the-wool like you, me, or the Freeptards. When it comes to these kinds of social "wedge" issues, most people just don't care very much unless they have a direct, vested interest. Call me an ass if you must, but it's true. It's not just California either - it's everywhere.

So you'll pardon me if I don't ask you for some kind of an apology. Pointing out general apathy over most issues does not in any way make me an ass.

18. yes...
I am far from apathetic.

You may hate me for living in CA - which is exactly how your nasty post came across but pardon the fuck out of me for taking umbrage with such a statement.

You are on the wrong board if you want to lecture people about this assumed apathy, which you are obviously projecting on people you don't know.

When you said No one in CA cares about either, well what the fuck kind of reaction do you expect?

You pissed me off and why should I apologize to you? Because I said you are an ass?

I'm sorry alright, sorry that your armchair psychoanalysis did not set well with me.

25. I don't hate anyone!
Good fucking god, where did you get that from?! And how was my post nasty?!? You are the one going on a fucking offensive.

Furthermore, I NEVER SAID NO ONE CARED. Most =/= None.

If you can find me a goddamn poll that shows me a majority of people even rate either gay marriage or animal rights anywhere near their top fucking five issues, you are well justified in you melodramatic scolding. Hell, find me one that rates these issues in their top 10, or 20. Until then, I suggest you check your reading comprehension levels and chill the fuck out. You might as well just proceed to chilling out, because such a poll DOES NOT EXIST.

I well know a lot of people DO care about it. My wife is bisexual for christ's sake! Hell, I CARE ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I am NOT TALKING ABOUT THOSE PEOPLE. Unlike you, I know I'm not most people. I'm talking about the masses of people that are NOT political fiends or do not have a direct, vested interest in these issues. Like it or not, they do not care. Prove me wrong, if in any way, shape, or form you can.

Goddamn you've pissed me off. I didn't even REMOTELY come close to disparaging you or anyone else.

your post suggests this was a choice between one or the other, both propositions should have passed.

I care about both. I voted yes on 2 and no on 8. I am not a religious kook. the two items are not comparable - I feel very damned bad about gay rights being taken away - however I also feel terrible that any farm animal has to suffer - I am certain you feel the same way.

Gloria Alred has already filed a law suit challenging prop 8. I heard her yesterday on the radio and it sounds like she will most likely reverse this crap. Keep your head up and know there is plenty of room to care about our gay and lesbian family, friends and fellow human beings and also care about a voiceless animal.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for more responsible treatment of animals, but to put them before the rights of people? Its time for this silly shit to end. Bigotry has no place anymore.

Keep protesting to overturn Prop 8! I got your back!

Listen, I worked hard getting this defeated but I don't see your state or others
doing a damn thing about gay rights, worker rights or human rights I'm getting sick of this crap from states
that give half the rights to human beings as our state.

We will get this defeated long before your state even begins setting the record right.

19. Where is "other"?
I am happy that Prop 2 passed (I had to read up on this): Prop 2 creates a new state statute that prohibits the confinement of farm animals in a manner that does not allow them to turn around freely, lie down, stand up, and fully extend their limbs . Exercise my ass!

I am horrified that Prop 8 passed. I believe in full civil rights.

Can't people agree on both fronts?

:wtf:

39. No one is scapegoating other states for the passage of prop 8.
As a Californian, I am ashamed. But to attack all the people of California for prop 8 is absurd. Many of us voted yes on 2 and no on 8. The two were not mutually exclusive.

California may not be the most liberal state, but there are certainly other states that are much more conservative including your own. So you yelling at us from your perch is gonna piss off some people here. Just sayin.

I am not Gay, but a fully support equal rights for all and I'm sure most people on DU do as well.

Lets get past the blame game and attacks....we need to focus on the future and hopefully our future efforts will lead to equal rights for all. A post like this is not helpful IMO.

24. I'm very happy the farm animal bill was passed
It was an important bill. People eat those animals, and they way they are treated disgusting. It's also unhealthy for us. I'm still surprised it passed, with all the money in the animal industry they could have put forth a campaign as heavy handed and misinforming as the pro-prop 8 campaign.

It doesn't mean I care more about animals than people. It does mean prop 8 opponents were vastly outspent, and their campaign was weak.

We need to change the process to amend the constitution to an super majority. This is to important for a simple majority.
