Bicycling in jeans--a walk down memory lane of your facorite faux (or FAUX Newx) outrage moments:
Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 11:26 AM by blondeatlast
An underappreciated classic--the "jeans/bicycle" dustup; possibly my most ":wtf:, can their lives REALLY be that empty?" (and indeed, they were--and still are) moment:

What's your "favorite" faux outrage?

2. Actually I liked it. Anybody on a bike improves my image of them.

Yes, even Bush. I went from deep seated loathing of him to slightly less deep seated loathing for him.

Bicycles rule.

7. Agreed--and if we aren't allowed to wear jeans while riding them, there'd be a LOT
of half-naked bicyclists (I'm a big bicycle fan too).

10. Well then, were they not jeans then bike shorts?
Believe me, people would have liked to see him in spandex less than the stupid jeans thing.

Plus, jeans on a bike suggest a recreational spin around town. In the picture, he's pulling his kids in a trailer too, further suggesting that cycling is recreational to him. And as a roadie and bike commuter, I'm very cool with jeans though I wear spandex almost every day.

3. I always laugh at that photo--what a dork! He reminds me of my husband, who is
also a dork and bike-rides in jeans and Jerry Seinfeld sneakers--occasionally a helmet, too.

13. Jeans are not as preferable as bumblebee suits?
Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 11:27 AM by Mark E. Smith
Leotards with padded asses? With the names of various chichi European
corporations scattered about?

I ride my bike in jeans all the time. Mostly because I find that the spandex
and colorful clown suits the vast herds of bicycle cattle wear look absurd.

19. Hey now, the few times I ride my bike, it's in jeans or shorts. But, I am fully aware
that I look dorky on a bike, no matter what I am wearing.

27. Bike shorts look horrible, but when you're riding long ...
... distances, jeans are quite painful.

28. Fellow jeans wearing bike riding dork here
I bike about 20 miles a day during the warmer months, back and forth to work. I'd feel and look like an idiot in a Timex suit. I also have been known to tie bandanas around my ankles to avoid getting my jeans caught in the chain. Or sometimes I pull my socks up over my jeans or roll my pant legs up. I look like an even bigger dork than our President Elect, trust me. :)

but I don't like saying that because I hate to discourage people from wearing one. Several stitches in the forehead look equally stupid. :D

9. "Dorky" is AWOL Bush falling off his bike, falling off his segway, and posing
in his "flight suit" with a sock in his jock.

in comparison, President Obama looks downright STUDLY in that pic.

6. clueless on DU
can someone fill me in? Is that our President on a bike?

Yeah, I love bikes and I wear a helmet. God loves dorks and geeks, the cool ones, anyway. I know this because he told me when I was voting for THAT ONE.

Favorite Fecal Moment for Faux: I don't watch them, so I have limited selection; I'll go with the recent "We had to tell America about this dangerous man, Obama...and america still doesn't know! He's in the white house and they still don't know!" Hannity or some such moran -- desperately selling stale talking points and withering into irrelevance as he spoke.

Instead, Obama just looked like an everyday guy.

30. Definitely NOT a dork. Even referring to this picture affectionately as 'dorky' reminds
me of the eighth grade when to be 'cool' you had to wear the right clothes and always be self-conscious. I think this picture shows Obama as incredibly cool. Cool enough to ride a bike he is comfortable with dressed in away he is comfortable regardless of the number of pictures taken of him or how they will look.

I think that is pretty damn cool.
