GOP Invites Longtime Democrat Lieberman into the Fold
FOX News has confirmed that the GOP has reached out to Lieberman to join the Republican conference

Connecticut Sen. Joseph Lieberman, who alienated Senate Democrats with his full-throated support of John McCain, has been offered a chance by Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to join the Republican conference, FOX News confirmed Friday.

Politico first reported the story, saying Lieberman has not accepted the offer because he is still bargaining with Democratic leaders to keep his chairmanship, according to Senate aides in both parties.

46. He should have lost his seat the last time.
Connecticut needs a law like most other states have that says "if you lose the Primary, you lose the election". Ned Lamont should be the Senator from CT right now. Until that law exists, Joe will keep creating fictional political parties to get around primary defeats.

6. Say goodbye to universal health care.
I understand that Lieberman was a jackass during the election season. I realize that. But we need every vote we can get and Lieberman would almost assuredly vote for our universal health care proposal. The more we embarass him, the less likely he is to vote for our health care plan. And believe me, we need every vote we can get!

Where did you get that crazy notion?

It wasn't in anyone's plan, save Kucinich.

And he isn't the President elect.

10. We would need a veto proof majority...
to pass something like that and we don't have it, so there is no point in keeping LIEberman any longer.

15. Why, would you expect Obama to veto Universal Healthcare?
If by any chance it did get out of the House and Senate (which is unlikely even if Lieberman stayed in the caucus, as there are too many DLCers opposed to that), I would expect Obama to sign it.

You don't need a filibuster proof majority to beat a filibuster. If you have a unified Democratic Party, you're bound to get a few Republicans to come over and help invoke cloture.

BTW, you mean filibuster proof, not veto proof.

50. No, but repukes would filibuster it.
That's the reason for 60 votes.

I'm not sure where Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe are on health care. Maybe they'll cross the line for that one?

53. You are right. Our desire to punish Lieberman ought to take a backseat to the needs of the people.
I know the Lieberman hate is strong, but on most social issues, Lieberman is a good Dem voter, and it's stupid to shoot ourselves in the foot, electorally speaking, just to have the satisfaction of driving him out of the party.

39. In all seriousness... this may be a very good thing for the country
Liberal and Moderate Republicans have been marginalized and if accepting Lieberman is symbolic of the less extreme wing of the party asserting themselves, then I am all for it. Lieberman does not belong in the Democratic Party - not because of some of his views but because of his direct betrayal - and so if his presence in the GOP can help reshape that party, then I am all for it. Let the extreme right finally die.
