Directing education from the fringe
Cynthia Dunbar's seditious attack on Obama shames Texas

Friday, November 07, 2008

It is shameful that Cynthia Dunbar is overseeing public education in Texas. She is an embarrassment who has brought heaping amounts of ridicule to this state.

Who is Cynthia Dunbar? She is an elected member of the State Board of Education, representing parts of Austin and Travis County. And she is author of a bizarre attack on President-elect Barack Obama published on the Christian Worldview Network.

In it, Dunbar says there will be a terrorist attack on America "by those with whom Obama truly sympathizes to take down the America that is threat to tyranny." She goes on in the pre-election rant to say Obama will use that attack to declare martial law and expand his powers.

"I sincerely believe that an Obama Administration would ultimately mean one thing \u2026 the end of America as we know her," Dunbar wrote. "(W)e know all too well the attack this great Country undergoes on a daily basis from our own militant leftist Judicial Branch. Can you imagine how much worse this will get with Obama appointees?"

more at link above.

Another elected crazy bitch that needs to be booted back to the house. Texas needs to clean out all these hateful people. It will be a battleground state in more ways than one, I'll just betcha.

And heh-heh, here's a link to her website. And, oh, there's a contact link there.

1. I always wonder what happens to people
in their lives that brings them to hold these views and see the world in such a twisted way.

15. Don't know that that covers it. You seemed to say that living in Texas created monsters like Dunbar.
I don't think I'm a monster like that. I don't think the many Texas posters on here--many of whom have been here since near the beginning--are monsters like that. Obviously, saying "Texas" doesn't explain people like Dunbar. Besides, her bio is silent on where she's from, but her degree was from Missouri and her jurisprudence degree is from Virginia. She's licensed in Missouri, too. I think she's a transplant.

17. She may be a transplant... but she was elected here.

Maybe it's just because I live in a very red area of TX... but I see the reason why our elected officials are the way they are.

8. Meaning?
And you better not make me feel bad about working to RETURN Texas to blue. Most people who just throw up their hands and say "Texas" don't even recall our proud Democratic heritage.

The precincts where we blockwalked in our 78% straight puke ticket county headed toward Democratic by 5-13%. And over 50 percent of the people in my county were not born in Texas.

The challenge is here. It's really easy to be a Democrat in a blue area.

21. only blue now, hasn't been in the past.
I am sorry I took a pot shot at you via the results of the election, I do appreciate your efforts and the efforts of all that helped bring about the result we have.

My opinion of Texas was formed permanently as a child in the early 60's. So I apologize to you, my rational mind knows better.

3. Regent University ...

This is the flotsam that seeps out of Regent University.

This person is vile. I am appalled I lived in a state where she has any influence over the educational system.

This evil bigoted filth is responsible for what my kids learn in school? How do we get rid of her?

16. Here goes
We have to find out where she is running. I have my own problems over here in Montgomery County/Spring with our own personal nutter I'm working on to unseat. Then we have to find a qualified candidate with huge integrity and start raising money for them. My guess is that the chair of the Travis County Dem Party could get someone started.

You are right. Getting these extremist folks into positions to shape our children's minds was the plan all along of the neocons. Time to clean the sty and we must work locally.

One of the absolute best watchdogs is the Texas Freedom Network, established by Ann Richards' daughter, Cecile. They will have the inside story on every one of the bozos.

11. Her district covers a much larger area than Travis.
http://www.tea.state.tx.us/sboe/board/bios/dunbar.html

"Dunbar represents the counties of Austin, Bastrop, Burleson, Colorado, DeWitt, Fayette, Gonzales, Lavaca, Lee, Milam, Waller, Washington and Williamson as well as parts of Brazoria, Fort Bend and Travis counties."

That's the plan, I guess. Put stupid people in charge of education, so you get a stupid populace, and they are more likely to vote Republican.

12. She doesn't just represent Austin - so we did not elect her
Dunbar, 43, was elected to the education board in 2006 from District 10, which includes the northern half of Austin and Travis County, as well as Bastrop, Williamson, Fayette, Lee, Milam and part of Fort Bend counties, among others. There are 15 education districts in Texas, each covering huge swaths of territory and multiple counties.

This is roughly around the same area that Republican Congressman Mike McCaul just won re-election. And that, despite the fact that Travis overwhelming went for his Democratic opponent Larry Joe Doherty.

The main problem is the whole State Board of Education - they're all wingnuts. Another contributing factor is that not too many people run for these seats. The Democrats have not recruited a good candidate that would draw support from the conservative counties where this person has to win too.

I'm just saying don't be dumping this nutcase on Travis's doorstep - we didn't vote for her.

Sonia
