Dear President-Elect Obama,
Many congratulations on your historic win! It was long fought, and I am thrilled about the new direction I sincerely believe our country is headed toward.

That said, I hope you will now consider taking significant steps toward eliminating animal abuse. I know that your plate is very full, but this effort is desperately needed. Your attention will require little money, just the encouragement of legislation to create laws mandating humane farming conditions, and severe penalties for animal abuse. Sentient beings, such as pigs, dogs and cats, may not have the cognitive capacity of humans, but they love their young, seek for security and order in their environments, and feel pain in exactly the same neurological manner as humans.

Although I am a vegetarian, I do not expect the vast majority of human beings to change their carnivorous dietary habits, anytime soon, at least. But, although farm animals are being lead inexorably toward a certain fate, at least their lives from birth to death should be something better that hell on earth. Is that too much to ask from a civilized society?

The abuse of dogs and cats, as well as every that of every other animal held under the control of humans, should not be treated as misdemeanors, but as serious crimes, punishable by very long prison terms and very high fines.

Yes, some of this is being done by various individual states, and on a strictly case by case basis, but we need strong and no-nonsense federal laws to protect the innocent. Please become the Voice of the Voiceless and issue in a new era of kindness and respect for all creatures great and small.

Sincerely,
MyPetRock

3. Don't forget the children...
Bless the beasts and the children
For in this world they have no voice
They have no choice

Bless the beasts and the children
For the world can never be
The world they see

Light their way
When the darkness surrounds them
Give them love
Let it shine all around them

Bless the beasts and the children
Give them shelter from a storm
Keep them safe
Keep them warm

Light their way
When the darkness surrounds them
Give them love
Let it shine all around them

Bless the beasts and the children
Give them shelter from a storm
Keep them safe
Keep them warm

The children
The children

4. I haven't and they will be one of President Obama's first priorities.
I am grateful for that. But the animal innocents are too often totally forgotten. They need help too. I'm not asking for taxpayer money, just legislation.

Sedwick, the white Chihuahua, was with the rescue group for over 18 months. They were called by a local vet that was about to put him down because he had a broken leg. So the lady who ran the rescue spent thousands to repair his poor little leg, and took him home, and he ended up breaking the other front leg! So, he has two wobbly front legs, with long scars and a lot of metal parts holding them together. No one wanted him. He watched dozens of his pals get adopted. My daughter fell in love with him, and that was that! He is a lucky guy now. She loves him like you wouldn't believe. He is spoiled rotten! And I approve! We're trying to make up for his rocky childhood:)
