Has Missouri officially been called for McCain?
I keep seeing different sites showing it either called for McCain or undecided. What gives?

McCain is ahead by something like 5,800 votes, but there are 7,000 provisional ballots outstanding, that still need to be counted - all from St. Louis & Kansas City - OUR votes! *fingers crossed*

At least, that's what I read!

12. Recount maybe?
I think the margin is pretty damn close and even McCain won I think it would be best to get all these votes and do a recount.

3. The Missouri Secretary of State site...
only has unofficial results on its site-so I don't know that they're official:

http://www.sos.mo.gov/enrweb/statewideresults.asp?eid=256

The results as currently listed have McCain at 49.4% and Obama at 49.2%, with a margin of 5859 votes.

5. thank you - and here's a link to that article I remember reading...
In Missouri, provisional ballots hold the key to presidential results

Republican John McCain's 5,868-vote edge in Missouri over Democrat Barack Obama and the state's 104-year record as the nation's best presidential bellwether both hinge on 7,085 votes in the state that have yet to be counted.

All are "provisional ballots" cast by people whose status as registered voters could not be verified when they showed up at the polls Tuesday.

St. Louis County election officials estimate that about 3,000 of those ballots were cast in county polling places. Another 750 came from the city of St. Louis. About 800-plus were cast in the Kansas City area, and the rest are sprinkled from around the state.

All sides agree that the geography implies that most of the provisional ballots included votes for Obama.

11. That's probably not enough.
Not all the provisional ballots will be counted or considered valid. It's pretty likely that over 1,000 of them will end up being rejected, and even in the case that they aren't, they would have to be overwhelmingly Obama. Unless there are more absentee ballots out there, I doubt Obama has a chance to close the gap.

6. No and the Dems needs to be watching what is happening here.
There are a significant number of early and absentee votes that have not been counted. Why?!!!! Because these Deliverance banjo playing Republicans like that idiot Bond want to convince the rednecks living in the outhouses that the "great show me state would never choose a black boy." Guess what? Early votes overwhelmingly were for Obama! This state more than likely flipped from Red to Blue. The Republicans would rather castrate themselves than count those votes. Keep an eye on nearby landfills.

13. There's 17,000 uncounted provisional ballots from urban KC and St. Louis
Plus there are around 7000 absentee ballots to be counted. The McCain margin is currently 5,868 votes, razor thin. Even if two thirds of the provisionals are thrown out(which is the average spoilage rate in past elections) there are still the numbers there to eek out an Obama win in this state. Given that we have Robin Carnahan as SoS, she will count every vote possible, have no fear on that score. However we probably won't know for another couple of weeks.

That said, what I really want to know is what the fuck happened in Clay, Jackson and St. Charles counties? These suburban KC and St. Louis counties were supposedly wired for sound by the Obama campaign, yet each one went for McCain. I was particularly wondering about Jackson and Clay, who took a real long time to report last Tuesday night, and where McCain's finally tally didn't reach fifty percent. I think that something strange went on there:shrug:

But we'll see, just give it a couple of weeks.

17. No automatic recounts,
However Obama could request one, given that the current margin of winning will be aprox. .2%. I imagine that when the final numbers get in in a couple of weeks, if it still falls for McCain, that the Obama campaign will request a recount. Missouri has too much to lose as a bell weather state for the state Dems not to get a recount.
