At Coretta Scott King's funeral, Ethel Kennedy whispered to Obama:
"The torch is being passed to you."

Source: Newsweek, November 17,2008

If you can read that without bursting into tears, than you are a stronger, more stoic person than I am.

3. Whole body chills here
Wow.

That is a heavy burden, which he has shouldered with honor.

This is a serious and determined man. He will take that torch far, and we will be there to support him.

6. Funny, isn't it?
When you think of John, Martin, and Robert, Barack seems to fit in with that group so easily. They are only separated by time.

8. Please God, don't let Barack be sacrificed also.
Abraham, Martin, John and Bobby are enough.

22. If you mean this, stop positng or talking about it. The first thing law enforcement tells
people who have been threatened or are being stalked is NOT to mention it publicly. This kind of loose talk cannot protect Obama, but it sure might put him in greater danger. Please stop.

7. Actually, that freaked out Obama. What I like about him is he has
a regular case of self doubt. Yes, some say he is cocky but that is always coupled with quiet moments of doubt. Such "self awareness", as Newsweek calls it, will serve him well in the WH.

than on the incident.

Those familiar with Ethel Kennedy know that she, like many others associated with the Kennedy Clan, have long thought that Barack Obama had the leadership qualities of JFK, MLK, and RFK. A number of them are on the record as having noted that very early on.

17. If you don't believe it, I cannot understand how you are not calling our President a liar.
And I agree with H20 Man, your statement says more about you then it does our President-elect.

I have enjoyed reading your posts...in the past.

24. That's fairly twisted ...

You don't believe it, but Obama says she said it, but you're not claiming Obama is lying, but you don't believe it.

Huh?

18. That was the gist of Ted Kennedy's Convention speech, but he meant the Kennedy
mantle, not the MLK mantle. Ted, Ted's kids and Caroline crossed racial lines and judged Obama by the content of his character to find Obama most like JFK Ethel matched one inspiring, eloquent African American with another. That's fine, but less impressive to me than what the other branches of the Kennedy family did.

Ethel is a great Dem, but she and her kids endorsed Hillary in the primary, not Obama. Caroline, Ted and Ted's kids were among the earliest endorsers of Obama. I bet it broke Ted's heart that he could not campaign for Obama. Just getting to Denver landed him in the hospital the day he gave his speech. He's my hero.

But, hey, a loyal Dem like Ethel is my hero too. It's not either or.

Clinton. I will edit my post, if I still can. But,the rest of my prior post is not affected by that. I still think Ted and Caroline's passing of the mantle was a step up.
