On CNN, Obama called Nancy Reagan to apologize about the "astrology seance" comment.... |
|
I think that as a I watched it the comment was really funny at first. The reporter asked about "live Presidents" and he quipped that he wasn't going to hold any Nancy Reagan stuff to speak with the dead ones. It was funny.
Then afterwards the thought struck me.... her husband is one of the dead ones.
So Obama was on the phone talking to her within a few hours. You see, HE THOUGHT ABOUT WHAT HE SAID AND DECIDED A PHONE CALL WAS IN ORDER. JUST LIKE MOST OF US WOULD IF WE REALIZED WE SAID SOMETHING THAT COULD BE HURTFUL TO A SENIOR.
He's such a good man.

2. Ya, it wasn't a big deal... I just think the fact he called Nancy after... |
|
When he thought of the widow (she also recently broke her hip) might take it personally. So he called her. I thought that was special. Meaningful.

3. Total class. I found his reference to her extremely tasteless so I'm really glad he called her. |
|
I figured he probably wished he could take it back as soon as he said it.

4. Exactly, he was trying to lighten the moment with humor... but would have immediately known... |
|
It was the wrong thing to say given her circumstances as a widow of a President.

9. When Ronald Reagan was president, it has been reported that Nancy use to consult astrologers to |
|
determine the best dates for Reagan to meet with world leaders in order to make deals.

I just thought it was an acknowledgment that Reagan was dead and he'd need Nancy to get in touch with him through a seance---but he wasn't going to do that.

8. I'm glad he called her. |
|
After reading about what he said I thought it wasn't necessary because Ms. Reagan is old and not your typical freeper. I also think her son Ronald is great.

10. yes, and Nancy didn't hold seances, either |
|
The jokes about seances were about Hillary contacting Eleanor Roosevelt.
This was the honorable and responsible thing to do.

13. He's a real class act |

I thought that it was real nice how he called that reporter and apologized to her after his "sweetie" remark during the campaign and I'm glad to hear that he made a call to Nancy Reagan to apologize for his remark the other day even if what he said wasn't necessarily as horrific as some of the things that Bush and Cheney said during the last 8 years. Of course, as always, Obama is showing everybody that he wants to be "the better person" even if nobody else is. Hopefully, his actions will help set an example for Congress and the rest of the country's political discourse. He could teach Bush and Cheney (and most right-wingers) a thing or two about humility and admitting mistakes when necessary. It would be nice of McCain and Palin to call him and apologize for all of the nasty "below the belt" things that they said about him during the campaign. McCain actually might (at some point) but I doubt Palin ever will because, like with Bush and Cheney, I doubt that she has the capacity for admitting her mistakes (particularly in pursuit of power).

|
Obama's going to waste a lot of time on these calls. Geez. Nancy Reagan is an adult. She in fact did have astrologers in the WH. It's part of our culture and we can talk about it.
