What I liked about Obama's Nancy Reagan comment...
Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 10:41 PM by NRaleighLiberal
Several things -

It showed he is tired

It showed that he is most likely more liberal than centrist in true spirit, and probably had as much angst about Reagan as many of us here did

Finally, it showed that he is not perfect - that is obvious of course, but he will misspeak occasionally, he will say some things that make some people cringe. He is human.

What was most telling is that in another election, another year, perhaps another president elect, that comment would have topped the news. But it didn't. The presser got pretty much very competent to glowing accounts.

1. I didn't read it that way

If you read his 2nd book it's clear that he doesn't have a lot of resentment toward Reagan. He said that even though he disagreed with many of Reagan's ideas he understood Reagan's appeal. I honestly don't think he shares our anger at the Republicans in general, and that's going to become apparent soon and it's going to drive us nuts because we want revenge but his inclination to look forward instead of backward is going to serve this country well even if we don't always like it.

3. It's just true
It's the truth about Nancy Reagan, and he didn't sound judgmental.

4. When I heard him say it, I thought to myself "What a peculiar thing to say."
He must be very tired for something so disjointed to have popped out.
But I guess it only sounded that way since he is so completely in control of himself.
