I liked the damned dress.
Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 11:09 PM by Writer
It looked interesting and visually appealing. It fit the black and red motif that her entire family wore that night. It looked stunning on her long thin frame, and...

By the way, did you know that she has a law degree from Harvard University?

Just wondering.

The Dress.

The Original Concept. It's a Narciso.

1. She rocked that dress, Michelle can pull it off.
I mean she can wear things that other woman would not look as flattering in, not pull off the dress....

2. I loved it! Michelle is stunning.. and I love that she and her daughters matched outfits..
I have no doubt that they had fun deciding what to wear together. Michelle is gorgeous and makes everything look more elegant. Frankly, I saw pics of her in the dress, and it photographed very nicely -- I think the lights of the stage might have made it look odd because of the shadows.

6. I liked it too. I thought it looked much nicer on her than on the runway model...
But, I've loved her in everything I've seen her in (except maybe today's outfit for the parent/teacher conference. LOL). And, like others, I loved how she matched her daughters' dresses without looking too cutesy.

7. I liked it too
It tied the family's colors together and accentuated her shape. The old school goth in me appreciated it as well.

16. I liked the dress too. She looked great. The whole family looked beautiful.
But love or hate the dress, it doesn't really matter. She is an amazing person, and it has nothing to do with the way she looks. She is intelligent, compassionate, loving, proud, grounded. She will be one of the best female role models this nation has ever had.

20. Don't want to rain on your parade but I thought it made her look pregnant
and then I thought that maybe she is expecting. That it would be so neat to have a little one born into the White House with it's new family. Then it would be truly a new beginning in so many ways though a different dress would have been more approximate in this case as well. It just was not right for this occasion, sorry.

23. Not to take the thread on a tangent, I just had to say
that my sister thought Michelle might be pregnant a couple of times during the primaries, but it was the carriage of the outfits that made her wonder. It would be pretty cool since Obama is such a natural with children, but they might have too much on their plates!

22. I thought it was bold and Michelle can wear anything and look hot (yet still dignified)
but for me, i simply appreciated the people up there on that stage on Election Night. they worked hard to see that my values are represented. she did that, they all did that, the clothing, it's almost not worth mentioning (though I understand that it was a topic, there's no putting that cat back into the bag).

24. The dress looks better in full light without the jacket on the model.
Sometimes you have to be on a runway to carry a look off.

27. I liked the damned election. I could care less about the damned dress. But the
family color scheme showed thought on Michelle's part, maybe Obama's, too. Visually, they were reaching out, even the babies. I like that, too.

Are we going to have to start another moveon. org so people can get past the damned dress? One word, folks:

PRIORITIES.

28. My first post about "the dress."
First thought in my mind was "what in the world is that?" When she first came out you could only see splotches of red. I think the major problem with the dress was not the dress itself but the lighting. The background was dark and the black part of the dress sort of disappeared. Seeing the dress in full light as on the model, makes a big difference. In other words, the dress is great - just bad lighting.

29. I Never Said a Word About Michelle Obama's Clothes Until November 5th
Her wardrobe never had any effect on my vote, and the fact of Michelle Obama, in general, was never relevant to my vote. I've seen photos that indicate she does have a couple of stinkers in her wardrobe that need to go (because they make her butt look huge), but that dress isn't one of them.

Edited on Sat Nov-08-08 09:32 AM by Crisco
You can't believe that:

1. Someone on DU doesn't base their vote for President on their spouses wardrobe?

2. Someone on DU doesn't base their vote for President on their spouse, in general?

3. Someone on DU hasn't voiced their opinion on Michelle Obama's taste in fashion until it was relevant?

4. Someone on DU has written that Michelle Obama has a couple of dresses that make her butt look huge?

5. Someone on DU has written that Michelle Obama looks great in the above dress?

32. It was Dramatic
It was dramatic and she has the build to carry it off. Jill Biden looked "nice" but pretty conventional. Michelle Obama is anything but conventional and I think it will be great to have a first lady with an original sense of style again after eight years of frump. I loved the fact that the whole family was in red and/or black. What a gorgeous foursome.

and can't believe the petty picking that is going on about the dress, don't we have bigger things to worry about?
After all we could have ended up with that clotheshorse Sarah Palin.

The original looks a lot better. The sleeves (or the little jacket she put on) do not look good on it. The longer bodice doesn't look good on it. I think the way the dress was changed for Michelle to wear just doesn't work.
