I firmly believe that Obama will try to de politicize the White House
Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 11:12 PM by WCGreen
in his first year in Office. I think he almost has to. He ran as someone who was different from Bush, different from Clinton. And we all know that those on the other side will jump at any chance to tear him down...

He needs to focus on what is best for the country and not necessarily what is politically expedient.

That kind of luxury no longer exists in the wake of the relentless Bush push for a Majority plus one and the utter choas that man has left for our country.

Obama did not run as someone who would openly embrace the hoary, juvenile attitude of "if your not with me your against me" that so poisoned the country under Bush...

No, Obama needs to remain above the fray for at least a year.

Then he can expend his political capital where it will be needed in 2010.

That's just my view on this my 30,000th post...

It's been a long strange trip...

Thank you DU...

1. I think so,too.
However, I think that many, both pro and con, 1. won't notice, and 2. will disagree, so he may not be properly appreciated for that aspect of what he does.

3. I really believe this is a realigning election and that attitudes
are going to shift almost overnight...

Fox News ratings are dropping like a rock trown from the cliff.

They will have their little boutique audience, but a lot of people were just plain disgusted with the way they ranted and carried on in such a blantantly Pravdaesque manner....

CONGRATULATIONS on your 30k post! Amazing.

You know, I predict that in doing so Obama will not offend anyone. And will pleasantly surprise all, including those making over a quarter million per year.

Edit- It sure has been a long strange trip. Surreal. It's so nice to be on the doorstep of reality.

4. I have several clients making over 250k and they mostly went for
Obama because of his willingness to take responsibility for a platform that is controversial, to say the least...

5. He is so real
There's just no other word for it. He's actually human, an anti-politician politician. It's so refreshing.

6. He has the charisma of Kennedy and the intelligence of Clinton
without the ego driven sex drive of both men...

He is solid as a rick...

7. Obama should avoid politicizing as much as possible
It just plays in the republicans hands and gives them ammunition.

Rule from the center, and move the country to the left from there. If you can compromise with the moderate republicans and slowly move towards your agenda one step at a time, you will destroy the republican party for a generation.

8. Oh fine. Meanwhile the other side is hard at work
scheming to destroy his administration. You guys kill me. Wake up. They haven't quit. They haven't surrendered. They aren't going play nice.

9. Well, I'm not saying that Obama should stand there and take
any crap. I guess you misunderstood what I was getting at.

No, Obama should not make politics the motivating factor for what runs his administration nor how he sets policy.

The country rebuked that approach.

I think there will be plenty of people to handle the poltical end of the job for the first year while Obama gets out front on all the major issues.

Why do you think he picked RE?

11. Right, 'they' aren't gonna play nice,
but it may be that 'they' have shrunk.

Certainly rep party has to re-do itself, and the 'schemers' prolly won't have the 'army' they've had in the past.

14. Suddenly, The GOP isn't playing to the majority...
They are playing to a shrinking number of people who are put off by thier carpet bombing approach to poltical warfare...

It's sealth and startigic attacks that will win the day for the Dem'...

16. i think Obama will have a team to blunt the gop attacks.
i'm sure they'll try like hell to treat him the way they did Clinton but of course Obama and his team understand what was done so i'm sure they're already prepared plus Obama won't get down into the muck with them.

19. Plus the echo chamber that is the right wing is losing audience...
They are not growing, standing basically where they were since 2004...

They have disgraced themselves in the eyes of many a casual viewer and or listeners.

Even Murdock himself is said to be embarrassed by O'Reilly and Fox..

12. I'm sure he will stay above the fray...
He definitely has the charisma, and the intellectual strength, to do that.

How refreshing to have such a man running our country!

Congrats on your 30,000th post! It certainly has been a long, strange trip...

I wish you many, many more great posts!

And it's nice to be vindicated by a panel of experts on Charlie Rose's show tonight who basically agreed with my assessment...

I watched after the post...

13. Exactly! Remember how Bush...
"politically" chose his entire cabinet:

http://www.examiner.com/x-1470-DC-Progressive-Examiner~y2008m11d7-The-right-vs-wrong-way-to-staff-an-administration

in fact ALL of his appointments were politicized. I'm hoping Obama puts competence first! -JLC

21. He doesn't need to depoliticize the WH,
He needs to depoliticize the career bureaucracy. There's nothing wrong with a partisan WH operation, but the permanent government is something else again.
