On the other side of the coin, I noticed since tuesday afro americans are |
|
a lot more cheerful and positive. That old racial tension that is often felt when a afro american stranger and a white stranger met hasn't been there, as soon as you open with hello, wasn't tuesday the greatest day in american history? All tension breaks and you get a big shit eating grin, I haven't seen this since MLK was murdered and its great.
On the other hand the sheeple are attacking and are bitter that they aren't in power. All I seen from McShitforbrains supporters is the usual right wing crap which I reply with, McCain lost fair and square GET OVER IT. Besides, your anti american because your not showing respect for the president of the USA. Boy do they stomp off when you use their talking points against them, hypocrites at their best.

1. Pat Buchanon uses the the word Afro Americans |
|
instead of Black people or African Americans. I'm not calling you Pat Buchanan. But every time he says that, somethings comes over me and not in a good way.
Love the subject matter of your post though.

2. I had to canvass a lot of low-income AA communities before the election |
|
I was working in South St. Louis. I wasn't working in any really rough housing projects or anything like that, but I was working in lots of public housing -- both apartments and single family homes. Many of these were areas in which it was not common to see a non-black person and it was especially uncommon to see an Asian-American such as myself in those areas.
A lot of times I encountered early suspicion. I'd knock and people wouldn't at first answer their doors, or they'd yell "who is it?!" However, as soon as I said I was with the Obama campaign, the doors would swing open and they'd smile so widely. When I'd ask them, are they voting for Obama, they'd look at me like I was crazy and then laugh.
I signed up a huge number of volunteers. It was very gratifying and heartening.

3. I won't be so self-conscious |
|
I know that I won't feel so uncomfortable now if I happen to be in a place where I'm the only Black person. Our President is Black! :3

4. Ever since Tuesday's Election, it's been very glorious. |

For myself, I feel that new possibilities are opening up. I really have the hope that things will get better because Mr. Obama has broken a large barrier. It makes you feel like you can do anything. No one will hold you back.
