What's the big deal about Berlusconi's "sun tanned" insult?
Edited on Sat Nov-08-08 02:40 PM by LittleBlue
I don't get it. I thought calling Obama "suntanned" was pretty harmless, especially considering Berlusconi probably said it in a self-deprecating way (he himself is over 70 and very suntanned).

Yet NY Times says Italy in "an uproar."

Jeez, anyone else not bothered by his comment?

2) why the hell would anyone care whether italians are pissed off at their own neo-fascist asshole? maybe they were just looking for an excuse. in any case, it indicates a strong degree of identification with our new president elect. and that's pretty fucking cool.

3. Silvio is such an ass.
At least the people of Italy saw the insult for what it was.

I wouldn't call a black person "sun tanned".

9. Actuall, I was hanging around at the beach with some black friends,
and we were actually joking about how I and other white friends in our group were spending a lot of time and energy trying to get "tanned" and then made some pretty great jokes all around...it was one of our more fun times...and I also was reminded that black persons can and do get sun-burned...

but then I lived in Hawaii where everyone is a minority...

5. Not me
I'm black and I really don't see what the fuss is about regarding the "suntanned" comment.

8. Because he has a history of ignorant remarks that were far worse...
Just another "bigot" trying to sound "cute" - unsuccessfully...

It's part of a LONG disturbing PATTERN, not just an isolated incident...

11. in an uproar because they know it wasn't harmless
They know he's a racist.

It probably wouldn't bother anyone if it came from someone else.
