This is an idea that will take many by surprise, no doubt, but I'm pretty confident in the fact.

Y'all, the man asked for feedback. Do we want a participatory democracy or don't we?

2. "Surrive" is pretty ambiguous...

After all, Bush's policies have also "survived" eight years of criticism from just about everyone who wasn't an accomplished idiot - not just the left. If you mean that Obama is going to do whatever his corporate sponsors expect of him, than I guess it's more likely than the opposite outcome.

Besides Rahm Emanuel and the short list for treasury secretary that includes a Citigroup exec (while Citi has all but been driven into the ground), there's yesterday's press conference. 95% about the economy, fine, but the only other topic (aside from the dog) was "Iran must not be allowed to develop nukes". Yes, I know Obama's been saying that since forever, but hey - that ain't change. Juan Cole has a sober comment about this on his blog.

And no word about all the civil rights issues at all. No questions from the press, either - about the war, about torture, about Guantanamo, about the wholesale wiretapping (which Obama seems to support anyway). Sigh.

4. lefty/progressive - semantics.
I understand that left here isn't left in Europe, but otherwise I'm not sure I follow you. Why have I been at sea too long?

7. I must not have expressed myself well.
I think someone else upthread misunderstood my point. But no, no misgivings here about progressives - I are one. :)
